Governor asks schools to tighten security after kidnapping and murder

South Sulawesi Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman has instructed all relevant stakeholders, especially school principals, to tighten security to protect students from being kidnapped from school environments.

“We instruct all education offices, and especially school principals, to tighten supervision in the school environment for students,” Sulaiman said here on Thursday.

According to him, the supervision tightening is being carried out to prevent cases of child abduction and murder.

“Tighten school security and make sure students arrive at their homes. Make sure they are picked up by their family when they go home from school,” he said.

He also asked parents to actively supervise their children, especially during afterschool hours and in the surrounding environment.

Earlier, on Tuesday (January 10, 2023), the Makassar City Police arrested two persons, identified as AD (17) and MF (14), suspected of kidnapping and murdering an 11-year-old boy, identified as MFS.

Makassar Police Chief Senior Commissioner Budhi Haryanto informed that the police had received a report that the child was missing. Officials immediately launched an investigation but found out that the kidnapped child was already dead.

According to the suspects’ confession, the criminal act was motivated by economic factors: they were tempted by an offer on the Internet to sell human organs and earn a large amount of money, Haryanto revealed.

“It is about purchasing and selling human organs. From there, the suspects were affected. They wanted to get rich and become wealthy, so there was an intention to commit murder. The organs of this murdered child were about to be sold by them,” he said.

In response to the case, Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Bintang Puspayoga, urged the Communication and Informatics Ministry (Kominfo) to take action against organ trading websites on the Internet.
