Maisonette house can be solution for urban housing: PUPR Ministry

Innovative-designed houses such as maisonettes, can be a solution to meet the housing needs in urban areas, according to the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry (PUPR).

“Typology model of maisonette houses appears to be the solution to meet the residential needs in urban areas hindered by limited land that leads to limited supplies and high prices,” the ministry’s Human Settlement Director General Diana Kusumastuti said in a press statement here on Sunday.

Such a typology model can help increase the density of buildings and residents, so that the land utilization becomes more efficient, she noted.

Referring to Indonesia Statistics as of 2016, she informed that the backlogs touched 11.459.875 and continued to increase from year to year, meanwhile the land supplies are getting less and less.

Managing fund of Housing Loans Liquidity Facilities (FLPP) subsidy program is among the government’s efforts to support the housing provision, she added.

Many vertical residences, such as flats, were built under the program, she said adding that providing such a facility for maisonette houses can be an interesting options for public.

Kusumastuti expressed hope that the information of such a technology can be massively disseminated to all related parties.

Currently, the ministry regulates the maisonette typology in Indonesia’s National Standards (SNI) No. 03-6981-2004 on Procedures for Planning Landed Simple Houses in Rural Areas and Technical Guidance No. PD T-01-2005-C on Maisonette House Planning.
