Police readies alternative routes amid Eid returning traffic period

Directorate of Traffic of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police has readied four alternative routes for implementing the one-way scheme amid the Eid al-Fitr returning traffic period on May 6-8, 2022.

“Four alternative routes from Jakarta to Bandung City (West Java Province) will be opened during the implementation of the one-way scheme for the returning traffic from Semarang City (Central Java Province) to Jakarta,” traffic director of the metropolitan police Senior Commissioner Sambodo Purnomo Yogo stated here on Tuesday.

Yogo noted that the alternative routes comprised the Jagorawi-Puncak-Cisarua-Cipanas-Cianjur-Sukaluyu-Cipatat-Padalarang-Bandung route as well as the Jagorawi-Cibubur-Cileungsi-Jonggol-Cianjur-Padalarang-Bandung route.

The Kalimalang-Kedung Waringin-Karawang-Purwakarta-Wanayasa-Lembang-Bandung route as well as the Kalimalang-Kedung Waringin-Karawang-Purwakarta-Sukatani-Darangdang-Cikalong-Padalarang-Bandung route were also readied for this purpose.

Earlier, Head of Traffic Corps of the Indonesian National Police Inspector General Firman Shantyabudi appealed to the Eid al-Fitr exodus travelers to return earlier to Jakarta to avoid major traffic jams.

“(This is especially pertinent) since May 6-8, 2022, will be the peak of the 2022 Eid Al-Fitr returning period,” he stated.

Shantyabudi has estimated a high number of vehicles amid the period.

Hence, he assessed that the travelers returning to Jakarta before May 6, 2022, will have a more comfortable trip since it will reduce the number of vehicles during the peak period.

“However, if you are still able to take more leaves, you should return after May 9, 2022. It is for the common good,” he remarked.

Furthermore, Shantyabudi has ensured that his side is ready to handle the returning traffic and urged the public to follow the instructions from the corps.

He affirmed that the corps and other stakeholders had also implemented other forms of traffic engineering, including the contraflow and odd-even plate number restriction schemes, to handle traffic congestion.

“Our attempts are intended to assist all travelers,” he added.
