Operation Madago Raya ongoing to hunt Poso’s MIT terror group

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo made assurance of the Mandago Raya military-police joint task force continuing to track down members of the East Indonesia Mujahideen (MIT) terror group operating in Poso, Central Sulawesi.

At a work meeting with Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) here on Wednesday, Prabowo noted that the Ali Kalora-led MIT still has nine remaining members.

“We will continue to hunt for the nine remaining members of Ali Kalora’s group,” he affirmed.

Earlier in March, the task force had shot dead two members of the MIT in an exchange of fire.

The two MIT members — identified as Alvin, alias Adam alias Mus’ab from Banten Province, and a resident of Poso District, Hairul alias Irul, who is the son of former MIT Poso chief Santoso — were on the police’s wanted list (DPO).

“The TNI-Polri (Indonesian military-police) launched the Operation Madago Raya since January 2021. In its first stage, it took stern measures against the two MIT members,” Prabowo remarked.

The task force has also detected the terror group’s movement.

“We have information on the group’s movement,” he stated.

The MIT is believed to have been split into two groups, one being led by Ali Kalora, with four members, and another is led by Qatar, with five members.

The Qatar-led MIT allegedly committed terror acts against farmers in Lore, Poso District, and was behind the killing of four farmers on May 11 at Kalimango Village.
