Joint police, ministry task forces to ensure cooking oil supply

The National Police (Polri) and the Ministry of Industry have formed joint task forces to supervise the production and marketing of bulk cooking oil for 24 hours.

“Polri, together with the Ministry of Industry, has formed joint task forces that will be deployed to the central level, producers, and at the central offices. We will place personnel, from the police and from the Ministry of Industry, especially in several large producers, for 24 hours,” National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo announced after a meeting with Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita at the National Police headquarters here on Monday.

Prabowo explained that the joint task forces will be tasked with supervising the production process and ensuring that business actors are committed to producing cooking oil in accordance with their agreement with the government.

He emphasized that all business actors that have been bound by a contract will be subsidized.

Currently, 79 cooking oil producers have registered to increase their production up to twice the national need in normal situations, the police chief said.

The task forces will carry out supervision at the distributor level by involving officers from the police’s security and public order unit (Bhabinkamtibmas) and intelligence.

The police chief expressed the hope that with the existence of the joint task forces, there will be no issues related to cooking oil scarcity and an increase in bulk cooking oil prices.

If those problems remain, Polri will take firm action against perpetrators, he stressed.

The National Police is aware of criminal modes related to cooking oil, such as repacking bulk cooking oil into packaged cooking oil to sell bulk cooking oil above the retail price ceiling (HET).

“We will take firm action. We want to ensure that everything is running well,” he remarked.

Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that Industry Minister Regulation (Permenperin) Number 8 of 2022 strictly regulates sanctions on violators.

“There are sanctions for companies that do not comply with the rules outlined in Permenperin No. 8, for example, producers whose production does not match the allocation of the amount set by the Ministry of Industry,” the minister added.

Tangerang restarts 100% face-to-face learning

The Education Office of Tangerang City, Banten Province, on Monday announced the re-implementation of face-to-face learning at 100-percent capacity in kindergartens, elementary schools, and junior high schools in the city.

“Based on the results of the evaluation that have been carried out, face-to-face learning with 100-percent capacity has begun. We have coordinated this with all schools and the task force,” head of the Tangerang City Education Office Jamaluddin said when contacted from here on Monday.

He stressed that even though the government has relaxed several restrictions, people must continue to prioritize health protocol implementation. Therefore, students will continue to be supervised by teachers and the task force.

The Education Office head informed that based on the data that he received, the number of COVID-19 cases in Tangerang city had declined. This led the Education Office to carry out an evaluation and decide to implement face-to-face learning at full capacity.

He asserted that schools will continue to conduct temperature checks and make mask-wearing and hand-washing compulsory.

According to Jamaluddin, the Tangerang City Education Office has coordinated with the apparatus in the region to jointly carry out monitoring so that the implementation of 100-percent face-to-face learning can run smoothly.

“We ensure that the rules during the pandemic will still be implemented,” he asserted.

He also appealed to the students who have not been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to register themselves promptly. Currently, first dose vaccination coverage among students has reached 89 percent. Meanwhile, for the second dose, the coverage has touched 80 percent.

As for teachers, around 99 percent of them have received at least the first dose of the vaccine.

“We are currently collecting data on students regarding vaccination. We will appeal and conduct socialization in every school so that all students can follow vaccination,” he informed.

Indonesian language pushed to become ASEAN official language: Minister

Indonesian language will be pushed to become the ASEAN official language, Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Anwar Makarim noted in a statement on Monday.

As the minister, Makarim remarked that he rejected the suggestion from Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to strengthen Malay language as the ASEAN official language and intermediary language.

“However, since our neighboring country has suggested to have Malay language as the official language of the ASEAN, this aspiration should be reviewed and discussed further at the regional level,” he added.

The minister urged the people to stand together with the government to continue to empower and fight for the Indonesian language.

The minister opined that Indonesian language is more worthy to become the ASEAN official language on account of its historical, legal, and linguistic advantages.

At the international level, Indonesian language has become the biggest language in Southeast Asia and has spread to 47 nations across the world, he explained.

Moreover, the Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) learning activity has been held by 428 institutions.

This activity is facilitated by the ministry’s Language Development and Guidance Agency. They are also held independently by BIPA actors, the governments, and institutions across the world.

In addition, Indonesian language is taught as a university subject in several world-class campuses in Europe, the United States, Australia, and Asia.

With all these factors in mind, it is appropriate for Indonesia to be at the forefront, Makarim remarked.

Indonesian language has advantages in terms of historical, legal, and linguistic aspects, and it is also an internationally acknowledged language.

If possible, Indonesia can also become the intermediary language for ASEAN official meetings, he added.

Junshi Biosciences Announces FDA Approval of Investigational New Drug Application for Anti-CD112R Monoclonal Antibody for Treatment of Advanced Solid Tumors

SHANGHAI, China, April 03, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Shanghai Junshi Biosciences Co., Ltd (“Junshi Biosciences,” HKEX: 1877; SSE: 688180), a leading innovation-driven biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the discovery, development, and commercialization of novel therapies, today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved its Investigational New Drug (IND) application for its anti-CD112R monoclonal antibody (TAB009/JS009) for the treatment of advanced solid tumors.

TAB009/JS009 is a recombinant humanized IgG4 monoclonal antibody against human CD112R developed independently by Junshi Biosciences, for the treatment of advanced malignant tumors. CD112R, also known as PVRIG (Poliovirus receptor-related immunoglobulin domain-containing protein), is a new immune checkpoint pathway discovered by the company. Dr. Sheng Yao, Senior Vice President of the company, is one of the discoverers of this novel pathway.

CD112R is a single-pass transmembrane protein of the PVR family, mainly expressed on T cells and NK cells, and is significantly upregulated upon activation. CD112R and TIGIT share a common ligand, CD112, which is expressed on the surface of antigen-presenting cells and certain tumor cells. CD112R can inhibit the anti-tumor effect of T cells and NK cells after ligand engagement. TAB009/JS009 binds specifically to CD112R with high affinity and effectively blocks the interaction between CD112R and its ligand CD112, thereby facilitating the activation and proliferation of T cells and NK cells and enhancing the immune system’s ability to kill tumor cells. To date, no product targeting CD112R has been approved for marketing globally.

TIGIT is another immunosuppressive target of the PVR family. Its ligands include PVR and CD112, and its binding site for CD112 is different from that of CD112R. TAB009/JS009 can work synergistically with TIGIT blocking antibodies to promote T cell activation. Pre-clinical in vivo pharmacodynamics has shown that TAB009/JS009 in combination with the anti-TIGIT monoclonal antibody (TAB006/JS006) developed independently by the company exhibits significant synergistic anti-tumor effects. The investigational new drug application for TAB006/JS006 has already been approved by both China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) and the U.S. FDA.

In addition, TAB009/JS009 in combination with TAB006/JS006 as well as the company’s commercialized product toripalimab, the anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibody, can further increase T-cell activation and improve the efficacy of clinical treatment. Junshi Biosciences plans to actively explore drug combinations to maximize the synergistic anti-tumor potential of its self-developed products.

FOWPAL Invites Everyone to Observe the Third International Day of Conscience on April 5

To Observe International Day of Conscience on April 5

FOWPAL will observe the International Day of Conscience virtually on April 5, with a focus on conscience education (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQQz_ViMrGg) to build character in younger generations and help the world move toward a better and more stable future.

“Let us sow the seeds of conscience in education, saving the world with conscience education.” ~ Dr. Hong, Tao-Tze, president of FOWPAL

LOS ANGELES, April 02, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — April 5, 2022 marks the third UN-designated International Day of Conscience, and the Federation of World Peace and Love (FOWPAL) will host a virtual observance from 3:00-5:00 pm GMT on that day, with a focus on conscience education, integrating the balance between the development of technology and spirituality to build character in younger generations and help the world move toward a better and more stable future.

FOWPAL firmly believes that conscience is the key to resolving all problems. It launched the movement of An Era of Conscience in 2014, and beginning in 2018, it collaborated with the Permanent Missions to the United Nations of Bahrain, Kiribati, Equatorial Guinea, and other countries on a draft resolution titled “Promoting the Culture of Peace with Love and Conscience.” On July 25, 2019, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the draft resolution submitted by the Kingdom of Bahrain, declaring April 5 as the International Day of Conscience.

Thereafter, FOWPAL has been engaged in activities each month to honor various UN-designated days, with an emphasis on conscience, uniting global citizens to act with conscience, transforming their communities, countries, and the world. To date, it has held more than 60 such events, where leaders from all walks of life from around the world have shared their insights on fostering sustainable development through conscience, urging the world to work together to promote a culture of peace with love and conscience.

The promotion of International Day of Conscience is gaining momentum around the world. Last month, a webinar on the International Day of Education organized by FOWPAL was broadcast on MNN (Manhattan Neighborhood Network) in New York. During the forum, FOWPAL President Dr. Hong, Tao-Tze delivered a speech titled “Transforming Education with Love and Conscience,” highlighting, “The core value of education lies in inspiring people’s conscience and self-awareness, thereby shaping individuals and the landscape of future society. The most important education for everyone from birth to death is conscience education.” Through the power of education for all, the promotion of the movement of An Era of Conscience is expected to inspire global citizens’ conscience and good deeds to create a future of love and peace together.

To commemorate the third International Day of Conscience, FOWPAL not only will host online events on April 5, but also has organized a series of activities with various organizations around the world since April 1, aiming to gather conscience advice from all walks of life and inject positive energy for the sustainable development of the Earth. The International Day of Conscience is a day for all of humanity, and everyone’s conscience and good deeds, great or small, are powerful forces in changing the world. FOWPAL invites everyone to send their conscience words and actions (video, text, photos, drawings, etc.) to its International Day of Conscience (ICDAY) mailbox at icday@fowpal.org or post them on its social media pages, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

FOWPAL also invites schools of all levels worldwide to observe this day during the week of April 5 (April 4 to 8) to promote conscience education, allowing the seeds of goodwill to be planted in students’ hearts and guiding them to better themselves. FOWPAL has created free materials for conscience education, and the citizens of the world are welcome to use them to foster positive values. They are also encouraged to send FOWPAL recordings (videos, articles, photos, etc.) of their practice and promotion of conscience-driven education. As a result, thoughts and actions of conscience will spread throughout the world, positively impacting everyone.

The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has shocked the entire world. The global community shares a common destiny, and the war’s brutality and casualties have deepened global citizens’ aspirations for peace. With a song titled “A Prayer for Peace” and another prayer for the world, FOWPAL hopes that the deceased will rest in peace and the survivors will be comforted. It prays for an end to the war and people’s suffering so that people can return to their safe and stable lives as soon as possible and work together to bring about world peace.

The pandemic is still raging around the world, so people must exercise caution. FOWPAL has been sharing a one-minute video, featuring useful tips for epidemic prevention titled “3 Don’ts, 5 Do’s and 6 tips,” encouraging everyone to share it widely through their platforms to benefit the people of the world. FOWPAL’s President Dr. Hong, Tao-Tze emphasizes, “With conscience, comes a peaceful world; with happiness, comes a joyful family.” FOWPAL hopes that everyone’s conscience will be awakened and that everyone will work together for a peaceful and sustainable future!

About the Federation of World Peace and Love (FOWPAL): Established in 2000 in the United States by Dr. Hong, Tao-Tze, FOWPAL is an international love and peace organization, with members from around the world. Guided by the principle of “Changing the world for the better starting with one good thought,” it aims to promote world peace and love through various activities such as world summits of love and peace, ceremonies of ringing the “Bell of World Peace and Love,” and cultural exchange performances. Vice President explains gov’t’s efforts to handle scarring effect

Indonesian Vice President Ma’ruf Amin has said the government has carried out various efforts to handle the scarring effect as people are afraid to spend and invest their money due to the pandemic.

“Scarring effect is a concern harbored by most economic actors,” he noted during “the Economic Challenges, Special Ramadhan” aired on a private television station on Saturday.

“This happens in the face of uncertainty because of the pandemic,” he continued.

To handle this issue, the government encourages financial institutions to continue to distribute credit, especially to priority sectors such as tourism and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The government also pushes the business world to utilize digital technology while conducting economic activities.

“Next, the government continues to bolster the people’s consumption activities through national economic recovery policy so that the people can develop their consumption,” Amin informed.

The government has among others increased the deficit budget to provide fiscal space.

The government also facilitates financing restructurisation extension and increases the social protection budget allocation each year.

“So that the people’s purchasing power does not decline,” the vice president said.

During the event, he also noted that risk sharing scheme is a development strategy concept to create a resilient and dynamic country.

“This risk sharing concept stresses that risk must be distributed to all parties involved so that not only one party has to bear the burden,” he said.

“The risk became lighter as a result,” he added.

Risk sharing scheme can be observed in insurance, banking, and infrastructure development schemes.

The concept of risk sharing is implemented in development as one of the solutions to avoid economic crisis and maintain financial system stability because it avoids excessive loss in one party.

Maisonette house can be solution for urban housing: PUPR Ministry

Innovative-designed houses such as maisonettes, can be a solution to meet the housing needs in urban areas, according to the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry (PUPR).

“Typology model of maisonette houses appears to be the solution to meet the residential needs in urban areas hindered by limited land that leads to limited supplies and high prices,” the ministry’s Human Settlement Director General Diana Kusumastuti said in a press statement here on Sunday.

Such a typology model can help increase the density of buildings and residents, so that the land utilization becomes more efficient, she noted.

Referring to Indonesia Statistics as of 2016, she informed that the backlogs touched 11.459.875 and continued to increase from year to year, meanwhile the land supplies are getting less and less.

Managing fund of Housing Loans Liquidity Facilities (FLPP) subsidy program is among the government’s efforts to support the housing provision, she added.

Many vertical residences, such as flats, were built under the program, she said adding that providing such a facility for maisonette houses can be an interesting options for public.

Kusumastuti expressed hope that the information of such a technology can be massively disseminated to all related parties.

Currently, the ministry regulates the maisonette typology in Indonesia’s National Standards (SNI) No. 03-6981-2004 on Procedures for Planning Landed Simple Houses in Rural Areas and Technical Guidance No. PD T-01-2005-C on Maisonette House Planning.
