Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Bintang Puspayoga has emphasized that the rights of women and children, who fell victims to disasters, should be fulfilled, following the 4.8 SR earthquake that recently rattled Bangli and Karangasem, Bali.
“We are here to map out what can be done to fulfil the rights of women and child victims of natural disasters. Hopefully, today’s activity would be a joint forum to coordinate and contribute to accelerating disaster recovery in Bali Province,” the minister noted in a press release received in Denpasar, Bali, Tuesday.
Puspayoga also deemed it crucial to immediately provide psychosocial support to women and child victims of disaster to facilitate their recovery.
“Regarding psychosocial support, the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection has collaborated with the Indonesian Psychology Association (HIMPSI) to provide psychosocial support to disaster victims. We hope that the specific assistance given to women and children today would ease their burden after the earthquake,” Puspayoga remarked.
Through this brief visit, Minister Puspayoga also expressed hope on being able to hear firsthand the situation faced by women and children, who survived the disaster, especially in Ban Village, Karangasem District, so that her ministry can provide support in accordance with their needs.
In addition, the minister expressed sorrow and extended condolences over the earthquake that struck last Saturday in the districts of Karangasem and Bangli.
“This situation is certainly not easy. Moreover, this disaster came at a time when we were still struggling to face and survive the COVID-19 pandemic. For that, we came and met with representatives of the victims to simultaneously provide protection in the form of meeting specific needs of women and children,” she remarked.
