Ministry seeks multi-party synergy for advancing villages

Director general of village government development at the Ministry of Home Affairs Eko Prasetyanto Purnomo Putro has invited all parties to synergize to develop and advance villages.

“The governments, from central, regional, and village (levels), third parties, academicians, the mass media, and the general public must synergize to make villages advanced, self-sufficient, and prosperous,” he said in a statement released on Wednesday.

According to him, his office is cooperating with several higher education institutions, such as Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) and State Institute of Public Administration (IPDN), to synergize for developing villages in the country.

“We hope to establish cooperation with other universities,” he informed at a “National Coordination Meeting on Village Administration” here on Tuesday.

He said that his wish to advance villages is part of efforts to realize the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.

Since Law Number 6 of 2014 on Villages was implemented nine years ago, there have been many improvements in villages, he noted. The law also serves as the basis for the allocation of village funds.

“Thus, various improvements that have been achieved must be refined to realize advanced, self-sufficient, and prosperous villages,” he added.

He stated that currently, there are 75,266 rural villages and 8,498 urban villages spread across 7,277 sub-districts, 416 districts, 98 cities, and 38 provinces in Indonesia.

To accelerate village advancement, villages that win the village competition each year must be used as models of development for others, he added.

“It is true that even as winning villages, it does not mean (those villages are) perfect. However, they become examples to advance villages to be better from time to time,” he said.

Meanwhile, secretary of the Directorate General of Village Government Development, Paudah, said that the national coordination meeting on Tuesday was held to enhance the synergy of all parties regarding village development.
