Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection has praised the issuance of the District Head Regulation (Perbup) of Cianjur on Contract Marriage Prevention and Perbup No. 10 of 2020 on Child Marriage Prevention.

“I highly praise the Cianjur district head on his policy regarding contract marriage. Contract marriage has been a long-standing problem here that we must solve,” Minister Bintang Puspayoga said at the Cianjur Secretariat of the Union of Women Family Heads (PEKKA) here on Friday.

The ministry hopes that Cianjur’s commitment to preventing the practice of contract marriage can be a good influence for other regions, she added.

“I believe that we can solve this, it cannot just be the district head alone; this requires our movement together. Hopefully, his action through this regulation can be a motivation and inspiration for the district and other areas around Cianjur,” she remarked.

Puspayoga also complimented the Cianjur provincial government which has prepared prevention schemes for women’s empowerment, including through the involvement of PEKKA.

“We are empowering women economically and they also support government programs. One of the programs that we honor is the regulation on the prevention of child marriage, which we expect to proceed through village regulations,” she said.

Meanwhile, chairwoman of the Cianjur PEKKA, Nina Kurniawati, said the union was established in 2002 with 541 members.

The union is not only involved in empowering women family heads economically through training, education, and legal assistance, but also at the village level for the socialization of child marriage prevention, she informed.

“We provide help to women on legal matters such as the issuance of marriage certificates by conducting a mobile marriage legitimation because there are still many who do not have marriage certificates,” she said.

“We also socialize about child marriage prevention and push a village regulation (to be issued) by engaging in Deliberation of Village Development Plan. Currently, there are several villages that already have the regulations,” Kurniawati added.
