Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno has encouraged music and creative economy players in Ambon city, Maluku province to digitize music during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Currently, the situation is indeed difficult because we are still in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic situation, but do not make creative economy players in the music sector recede. Instead, they should become more literate of the digital world in which there is digitalization of music,” he said while speaking at the International Music Conference, which was held virtually here on Tuesday.
One of the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic has been an acceleration of digital transformation for all creative economy players, he noted.
All creative economy players, including the music industry, are now required to acquire digital literacy, he added. Uno said that he believes nothing can limit musicians and players in the music ecosystem since their imagination in producing work crosses boundaries.
The minister stated that the key to facing major changes in the tourism and creative economy sectors due to the COVID-19 pandemic is to implement innovation, adaptation, and collaboration.
The innovation aspect involves utilizing digital platforms in marketing creative products, so that the services provided are maximized, Uno said.
Next is the aspect of adaptation which mainly involves implementing health protocols that apply in the new normal era, he added. Meanwhile, the collaboration aspect involves collaborating with all elements of the pentahelix so that recovery and revival in the tourism and creative economy sector can be realized immediately, Uno informed. There is potential for developing the creative economy in Ambon, especially the music sub-sector, he added.
He also said that he believed that building infrastructure and a creative ecosystem, namely marketing campaigns that focus on music, promoting Ambon through international events, and increasing digital promotions, could lift Ambon’s name internationally.
“I believe that through these efforts Ambon could be more recognized not only at the national level, but internationally, through a network of world music cities,” Uno remarked.
