Labuan Bajo is ready to welcome tourists as the number of COVID-19 cases is going down, according to Deputy Head West Manggarai District Yulianus Weng.
“We make sure that Labuan Bajo is safe for tourists to visit. COVID-19 cases here have decreased and are very sloping,” Weng said here on Sunday.
The district recorded only seven fresh COVID-19 cases on Saturday, a decrease from of 13 cases on the previous day.
On March 9, 2022, the number of daily COVID-19 cases in the district reached 218, but it went down to 7 cases on March 24, 2022, and 16 cases on March 23.
Weng, former head of the Manggarai District Health Office, said he also noticed a decline in the number of COVID-19 patients conducting isolation, and an increase in the number of patients who recovered from the COVID-19.
He expressed his proud that the first-dose vaccination coverage in the district had reached 97.2 percent of the total target of 208,629 people, as of March 23, 2022. The second dose coverage had reached 164,043 people, or 78.6 percent of the total target.
The local government is now accelerating the implementation of booster vaccine drive, according to him.
For the safety of visitors in particular, the West Manggarai District Government has issued various policies on health protocols against the virus infection.
Besides, travelers must be able to show vaccine cards if they want to enter West Manggarai.
Labuan Bajo is one of Indonesia’s top 10 tourist destinations dubbed as Beyond Bali destinations.
