Jakarta (ANTARA) – Bank Indonesia (BI) bought government bonds (SBN) worth Rp120.83 trillion in the first half of this year to finance the 2021 state budget (APBN), BI Governor Perry Warjiyo has revealed.
“We have strong commitment to participate in financing the state budget through the purchase of government bonds,” he said at a meeting with the budget committee of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Monday.
The central bank purchased the government bonds in the primary market, he informed adding, SBNs worth Rp45.4 trillion were bought through the main auction, while bonds worth Rp75 trillion were picked up through an additional auction or green shoe option.
In addition, the central bank purchased government bonds worth Rp8.6 trillion in the secondary market, as part of efforts to stabilize the rupiah’s exchange rate and the government bond market, Warjiyo said. In total, the central bank bought bonds worth Rp129.45 trillion in the first half of this year, he added.
Last year, BI had bought government bonds worth Rp473.42 trillion — Rp75.86 trillion through the primary market and Rp397.56 trillion through direct purchase within the framework of burden sharing.
“We are constantly committed to synergizing and coordinating closely with the fiscal authority to jointly support the economic and health recovery in the midst of this pandemic,” Warjiyo said.
