Bali readies five referral hospitals for G20 delegates

The Bali provincial government has readied five referral hospitals to handle emergency conditions of delegates, who will attend the G20 Indonesia Presidency event in Bali in November 2022.

“The selection of the five hospitals, apart from being experienced, is also proximity to the location of the G20 meeting,” Head of the Bali Provincial Health Service, Dr I Nyoman Gede Anom, stated here on Monday.

The five referral hospitals are Sanglah Hospital, Bali Mandara Hospital, Siloam Hospital, BIMC Nusa Dua Hospital, and State University Hospital (PTN) of Udayana University.

“We have readied all personnel and infrastructure. There will be no additional facilities since the existing ones are sufficient,” Anom remarked.

The Bali Provincial Health Service regularly monitors the readiness of the referral hospital and reports to the Ministry of Health.

“Later on, during the simulation, the Ministry of Health will also witness it directly,” he noted.

In addition to the readiness of the referral hospital, every hotel used for the G20 meeting will be equipped with a mini Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and a full range of specialist doctors and supporting equipment, he remarked.

“Among them are internal medicine specialists, surgeons, cardiologists, and anesthesiologists,” Anom stated.

In addition, an ambulance, with complete facilities, has been readied to assist delegates in need of further assistance to a referral hospital.

Earlier, Head of Health Services of the Bali Provincial Health Service, Dr Kadek Iwan Darmawan, stated that apart from the G20 meeting’s location, every hotel where the heads of state stayed would also be equipped with a mini ICU.

“A mini ICU will also be provided at the location of the G20 gala dinner,” Darmawan remarked.

Regarding the treatment mechanism for G20 delegates in need of health services, mild cases will be handled at the meeting’s venue that is equipped with a mini ICU, he explained.

“Meanwhile, any cases will be referred to the nearest hospital, specifically BIMC Nusa Dua and PTN Unud Hospital. Cases of moderate severity will be sent to Siloam Hospital and Bali Mandara Hospital,” he stated.

When cases are severe or critical, patients will be taken to the Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar City, which is a referral center hospital.
