Jakarta police are striving to complete the case file of former West Sumatra police chief, Inspector General Teddy Minahasa, who has been indicted in a drug trafficking case before its submission to the public prosecutor.
Jakarta Metropolitan Police spokesperson Sen.Coms.Endra Zulpan conveyed the information here on Wednesday.
“What the police investigators are now doing is completing the suspect’s case file to be continued to phase one and two,” he said.
Minahasa is currently in police custody. During his 20-day-long detention, investigators will make their utmost efforts to complete his case file, he informed.
“The suspect has served the eighth or ninth day of his 20-day-long detention. So, the police investigators still have time (to finish the case file),” he added.
Police investigators have named Minahasa a suspect in a drug trafficking case and placed him under detention since October 24, 2022.
According to the Jakarta metropolitan police, Minahasa was allegedly involved in the illegal trade of around five kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.
At least 1.7 kg of the drug package was traded in Kampung Bahari, while around 3.3 kg was confiscated by police, director of the Jakarta Police’s Narcotics Division, Sen.Coms.Mukti Juharsa, revealed recently.
In response to the alleged drug offense, National Police chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, has ordered the police’s Internal Affairs Division (Propam) to question Minahasa to identify potential ethics breaches in relation to the drug trafficking case against him.
“I have asked the Propam chief to conduct an ethics hearing, which may end with a dishonorable discharge,” he informed on October 14.
Police investigators are probing Minahasa’s alleged involvement in the case, he said, adding that two more police officers are also reportedly involved in the case.
They comprise a chief brigadier and a commissioner, Prabowo said.
The police investigation had resulted in the arrest of a drug dealer. It was his arrest that had revealed the alleged involvement of a senior police commissioner who was formerly posted at the Bukittinggi police precinct, he informed.
Before being assigned to replace Insp.Gen.Nico Afinta as the East Java police chief, based on the police chief’s letter No.ST/2134/X/KEP/2022 dated October 10, Minahasa headed the West Sumatra police.
Due to the drug case, Prabowo said he has revoked his decision and appointed someone else to lead East Java police.
Minahasa has been charged under Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics. If convicted, he may be sentenced to at least 20 years in prison or face the death penalty.
