Logistics aid for Cianjur victims still sufficient: VP

Logistics aid for earthquake victims in Cianjur District, West Java, is still sufficient, despite the district government stating that logistics supplies at evacuation posts are only enough for the next five days, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin said.

“Yes… I asked everyone earlier that they were all healthy. And I even asked someone, ‘(Is) the food sufficient?’ To date, (the stock) is still enough,” he said at Sirnagalih Village, Cilaku Sub-district, Cianjur District.

Head of Emergency and Logistics at the Cianjur Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Asep Sudrajat said that currently, logistics supplies at the warehouses of the agency, Unilever, and Bale Rancage are only enough to cover the needs of the victims for the next three to five days.

According to Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Suharyanto, the available logistics supplies would suffice for three weeks to a month.

“But, of course, (logistics are provided) by the West Java provincial government, then the city districts continue to add. Its current status is still transitioning from emergency response to rehabilitation and reconstruction. This means that, in this transitional stage, the central government is still intervening (through) the National Disaster Mitigation Agency,” he said.

The BNPB will continue to ensure the availability of logistics first, he added.

“Especially during the transitional period. But after three months of entering the rehabilitation and reconstruction phase, well… they are to return to their respective communities. It’s impossible to be fully supported by the central government; the community can also work again,” he said.

He also noted that the district and city governments have also appealed to refugees to return to their respective homes or set up tents or temporary shelters.

“From that point onwards, you can work and live again and you can go on. The logistics don’t have to be 100 percent supported by the government,” Suharyanto said.

During the review, a resident complained about not getting aid to renovate his damaged house.

“Not yet, haven’t got it at all sir. Why is it slow sir? Please hurry, sir,” a resident named Surherlan said.

He informed that his house was so badly damaged that he had to make a tent beside his house.

“This — head of BNPB (said) that there were stages to it, right? Is that one of those which were relocated?” the Vice President asked.

“No,” the resident replied.
