The government is still deliberating on the 2023 provincial minimum wage (UMP) based on the inputs received from various parties, Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah has stated.
“The determination of the UMP is on November 21, 2022. It is now in the process of being discussed by the (Manpower Ministry’s) director general of industrial relations and workers’ social security,” she informed after attending the 3rd National Gathering (Silatnas) of Bu Nyai Nusantara here on Monday.
Fauziyah said that the inputs for the 2023 UMP were received from trade unions, laborers, employers, and related stakeholders in the country.
“We have listened to inputs from all parties. Now, our task is to formulate those views,” the minister added.
The National Wage Council has reached several agreements regarding the 2023 minimum wage, including that the determination of the UMP will be made no later than November 21, and the district/city minimum wage (UMK) will be decided by November 30.
The 2023 UMP will be determined based on Government Regulation Number 36 of 2021 regarding wages, which is a derivative of the Job Creation Law.
Inflation will be one of the considerations in determining the UMP, along with various other factors, including economic growth.
In this regard, the Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, expressed his support for a proposal to increase the minimum wage in Central Java in 2023 by adjusting it to the inflation rate in the province.
According to Pranowo, this is in accordance with Government Regulation Number 36 of 2021 concerning wages, as one of the articles of the regulation states that the minimum wage consists of the provincial minimum wage and the district/city minimum wage, which, with certain conditions, will be determined based on economic and labor conditions.
