Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (KPPPA) Minister Bintang Puspayoga has said that the success of the 2022 World Children’s Day commemoration which falls on November 20, is thanks to the involvement of children across the country.
“The commemoration of World Children’s Day in Indonesia this year is very special because we center children’s involvement in two major activities. These various processes are carried out as an effort to make the event more meaningful,” Minister Puspayoga said in her remarks on World Children’s Day held here on Sunday.
World Children’s Day was very meaningful for Indonesia, because it was participated in by children from Aceh to Papua and children from the ASEAN region, with eight countries sending representatives to attend the event.
Indonesia also had the opportunity to host the 7th ASEAN Children’s Forum (ACF 7th) which was held in Manado, North Sulawesi, she added.
The event themed “Building a Digital Resiliency for ASEAN Children” was divided into sub-themes related to digital literacy, digital security, and children’s participation as well as digital resilience resulted from the ASEAN Children’s Forum.
“Indonesia’s opportunity to host ACF is historical. Because this will only happen again in the next 20 years,” the minister remarked.
On the 7th ACF, the Indonesian government provided more opportunities for children and young people to take part and be creative in nation building.
The participation of children was in accordance with the adoption of a global theme, namely inclusion and diversity. The minister says the theme was very relevant to the ACF 7th theme and a series of World Children’s Day webinars.
World Children’s Day was also highlighted with a series of webinars discussing sexual violence against children, child marriage, and reproductive health.
The webinars recommended that victims of violence, harassment, and exploitation must not be isolated, and children must be encouraged to be more creative and to act as pioneers regarding current issues .
On Saturday, the PPPA Ministry together with the Children’s Forum held a “Warung Kopi” activity, which provided an opportunity for Regional Children’s Forums to submit action plans in their respective regions in order to contribute to solving various children’s problems.
The 7th ACF also adopted a, issue mapping concept dubbed “I See, I Know, I Will, and I Dare to Act”.
