All leading business sectors, except for health services, managed to record positive growth to drive domestic economic growth in the third quarter of 2022, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) has reported.
All leading sectors, namely industry, mining, agriculture, trade, and construction, continued to recover by growing 4.83 percent year-on-year (yoy), 3.22 percent yoy, 1.65 percent yoy, 5.35 percent yoy, and 0.63 percent yoy, respectively.
“These leading sectors contributed to a total of 66.45 percent of our economy,” BPS head Margo Yuwono informed at a press conference held to disseminate information on economic growth in the third quarter (Q3) of 2022 on Monday.
The industrial sector contributed 17.88 percent, mining sector 13.47 percent, agriculture 12.91 percent, trade 12.74 percent, and construction 9.45 percent to the economy, he said.
The sectors that recorded the highest growth during the quarter were transportation and warehousing as well as accommodation, food, and drinks. Their growth was driven by increased community mobility and foreign tourist arrivals.
The transportation and warehousing sectors grew by 25.81 percent yoy and contributed 5.01 percent to the national economy, while the accommodation, food, and drink sectors surged by 17.83 percent yoy and contributed 2.32 percent to the economy.
The BPS head said that other sectors that grew positively in the third quarter included information and communication (6.88 percent yoy), financial services (0.87 percent), government administration (12.42. percent), and education services (4.46 percent).
In addition, the real estate sector grew 0.63 percent yoy; other services 9.13 percent; corporate services 10.79 percent; electricity and gas supply 8.05 percent; and water supply 4.25 percent.
Meanwhile, health was the only sector that experienced a contraction of 1.74 percent yoy, but it still managed to contribute 1.2 percent to the economy.
“The contraction is due to the lower disbursement of health incentives compared to the third quarter of 2021,” Yuwono informed.
