US courtesy call a start to sound interstate relations: Commander

Courtesy call from US Joint Chiefs of Staff’s Chairman General Mark A. Milley to the headquarters was a good start to friendly relations between both military forces, National Defense Force Commander General Andika Perkasa stated.

“This courtesy call is the first (one) in the last 14 years. I hope this would be a good start for friendly relations between the National Defense Force and the United States military in the future. Thank you, General Mark A. Milley,” General Perkasa said, as quoted from his official YouTube channel on Saturday.

The commander opined that 14 years was not a short time, which made the visit from the senior most military officer of the highest rank in the United States armed forces even more meaningful.

General Perkasa also took the time during that visit to bring General Milley and his delegation to review the National Defense Force Headquarters.

Thereafter, he invited General Milley to have lunch together during which typical Indonesian culinary dishes were served. The latter was also introduced to the local tunes and dances.

“I believe that the cooperation between the National Defense Force and the US Military will continue to grow and become more intimate, because that is what we are doing,” Perkasa added.

At the signing of the friendly cooperation agreement, General Perkasa also invited three-star generals of the force.

“I also brought in three-star generals and partners because I believe one of them will succeed and take over this leadership one day. Hence, I want to ensure they share the value that I have promoted, which is to make US cooperation with Indonesia better,” he told Milley.
