Use measurements to improve productivity: ministry

I want all of us to be able to synergize in improving Indonesia’s productivity and human resources.

Jakarta Comprehensive measurements must be undertaken to encourage improvement in productivity, the Manpower Ministry’s Director General of Vocational Training Development and Productivity (Binalavotas) Budi Hartawan has said.

“Measurement will encourage comprehensive improvement in productivity, efficiency, quality, and capability in responding to manpower challenges,” he said in a statement issued on Saturday.

For companies, productivity measurement is important to determine how far the production process helps balance profit and workers’ wages, he explained.

East Java gov’t prepares land to relocate disaster-impacted residents

If it is possible, the district government and the community can help to provide additional assistance for the victims. It will be very good

Surabaya, East Java The East Java provincial government has prepared an area for relocation of residents affected by the soil movement disaster in Pacitan some days back.

East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa said cracks developed on the floors and walls of hundreds of houses as well as roads as a result of the natural disaster in Pacitan.

“Yesterday, I visited the location of the relocation area in Sukorejo Village, Sudimoro Sub-district, Pacitan,” Parawansa said in a statement  here, Saturday.

Accompanied by Pacitan District head, Indrata Nur Bayuaji, the governor directly inspected the land area spanning 3.6 hectares of the Pacitan District Government’s assets that are planned to be used for relocation.

Parawansa affirmed that her side will allocate an unexpected budget of Rp50 million for each housing unit. A similar budget has also been allocated by the East Java provincial government to prepare for the relocation of disaster-affected residents in the districts of Trenggalek and Blitar.

“If it is possible, the district government and the community can help to provide additional assistance for the victims. It will be very good,” she stated.

She noted that the provincial government and Pacitan district government were striving to prepare the best steps, in the form of relocation, for affected residents. However, this step can run smoothly if the community agrees to be relocated.

“One solution to provide safe housing is through permanent housing, as long as the community agrees. The land is available and can be prepared for permanent residential buildings,” Parawansa remarked.

KPLP begins evacuating crew from tanker aground in Riau Island

There are no casualties or sea contamination caused by the incident. We are exerting to evacuate promptly and carefully to prevent excess impact.

Jakarta The Transportation Ministry’s Sea and Coast Guard (KPLP) has commenced an operation to evacuate a Djibouti-flagged tanker MT Young Yong, which ran aground near Takong Kecil Island, Batam city, Riau Islands, on Friday.

“At present, (the operation) is being handled by the relevant institutions, Tanjung Uban Class II Sea and Coast Guard and Tanjung Balai Karimun Class I Harbor Master and Port Authority, as well as the ship owner, for the evacuation measures,” KPLP director Mugen Sartoto informed in a statement released here on Saturday.

According to Sartoto, for the rescue operation, Tanjung Uban Class II Sea and Coast Guard has dispatched the KNP Rantos P-210 boat, while the Tanjung Balai Karimun Class I Harbor Master and Port Authority has dispatched KNP 366.

The Djibouti-flagged tanker ran aground at 8 p.m. local time (UTC +7) on October 27, 2022, he said adding, no casualties or environmental damage were reported in the incident.

Responding to reports of the incident, the KPLP dispatched eight officers on two patrol boats to survey the conditions of the seabed where MT Young Yong had run aground, as well as monitor and secure the ship the same day, he said.

The evacuation operation needs to be conducted carefully as the tanker is within the Singaporean gas pipeline area, he added.

“There are no casualties or sea contamination caused by the incident. We are exerting to evacuate promptly and carefully to prevent excess impact,” the director said.

Sartoto informed that MT Young Yong departed from Tanjung Pelepas Port, Malaysia, on October 18 and its intended destination was Nipa Island in Karimun district, Riau Islands.

The Djibouti-flagged tanker was manned by 25 crew members and was transporting 284,429 tons of oil, he said, adding that the 332-meter tanker is owned by Hong Kong-based East Wind Ship Management Ltd.

National beach handball team to participate in SEA Championship

Jakarta The executive board of the Indonesian Beach Handball Association (PB ABTI) will send the national team for the 2022 Southeast Asian Beach Handball Championship in Bangkok, Thailand, which will be held from November 15–19, 2022.

The participation in the event will be a part of Indonesia’s preparations for the 2023 Beach Handball World Championships and the Asian Beach Handball Championship, PB ABTI chairperson Zulfydar Zaidar Mochtar informed in a statement issued on Saturday.

“The ASEAN handball championship is participated by five countries and can be a tryout event for the Indonesian beach handball team,” he said during the Jakarta Handball Festival here on Friday.

“The expectation is that when they participate in the Asian and world championships, they can compete with their opponents,” he added.

The national beach handball team underwent a relatively short preparation for the 2022 Southeast Asian Beach Handball Championship. In fact, most of the athletes are indoor handball players who trained in Sentul, Bogor, West Java.

Mochtar said he expects support from the government, Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), and Indonesian Olympics Committee (KOI) for the athletes’ training.

This is because all athletes who compete overseas not only represent themselves and their organization, but also their country and nation, he added.

“Countries that will deploy their athletes for the ASEAN championship comprise Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam, and host Thailand,” he informed.

“This is because this iteration of the ASEAN handball championship will serve as a benchmark for the 2025 SEA Games planned to be held in Thailand,” he said.

Due to minimal preparation on account of budget limitations, the Indonesian beach handball team will leave for Thailand on November 13 under the guidance of coach Abdul Kadir.

According to Mochtar, beach handball should have been featured in the National Sports Week (PON) in addition to indoor handball to prepare the athletes for world championships.

Diversity among nation’s elements a potential to preserve Indonesia

Pekalongan, Central Java Diversity among the nation’s elements would be an outstanding means of defending and preserving the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, Indonesian Navy’s (TNI AL’s) Doctrine, Education and Training Development Command stated.

“Our people comprise various elements. Our nation consists of diverse ethnic groups, cultures, religious faiths, and other differences that exist in our homeland,” TNI AL Doctrine, Education and Training Development Commander Marine Lieutenant General Suhartono stated here, Saturday.

While presiding over the Red-and-White and Oath for Indonesia Rally at the city’s Mataram Field, he said that instead of weakening the country, diversity among the people would strengthen the nation.

The lieutenant general expressed gratitude that the rally event to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad was taking place smoothly.

He also expressed hope that people from various groups and elements would unite to maintain and defend the independence of the Indonesian nation.

“We expect that from the Red-and-White and Oath for Indonesia Rally, differences would no longer be perceived as a weakness, but instead, as a huge potential for us, just like how the youth in the past agreed to unite to achieve the same goal: an independent Indonesia,” Suhartono stated.

As Indonesia has achieved its independence, the younger generation must now live with the spirit to fight for Indonesian unity and national development, the naval education agency commander remarked.

“The youth is the nation’s backbone to achieve the glory of Indonesia. Hence, I encourage all elements to unite, work together, respect and be tolerant of each other,” he noted. Related news: Youth Pledge Day momentum for reaffirming unity in diversity: official

Financial literacy improvement efforts should cover regions: OJK

Our inclusion rate is very high, but the literacy is still low; 1:2 in comparison

Jakarta Efforts to improve financial literacy and inclusion should also be made in regions and not solely in big cities, according to Financial Services Authority (OJK) Commissioner Council Head Mahendra Siregar.
