The government has targeted to have 4.4 million new workers in the tourism sector by 2024, according to Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno. “We hope that the labor absorption can improve the community’s welfare,” Uno said here on Sunday. According to him, the tourism workers’ absorption has a significant impact on increasing people’s economic income and increasing employment opportunities up to six times. The Ministry has targeted to have 1.2 new workers in the tourism sector. “We believe that the tourism sector can contribute to the community’s economy and tackle unemployment,” Uno added. Through various innovations and policies as well as by involving stakeholders, the Ministry focuses on enhancing the community’s welfare. Currently, the minister informed, the Ministry is organizing the Indonesian Tourism Village Award (ADWI) which seeks the 50 best tourism villages in the country. The implementation of the tourism village award competition has encouraged local creativity that must be maintained and preserved. In addition, it also helps to revive tourist attractions that were impacted due to the pandemic situation. “We are optimistic that tourist destinations will rise again and contribute to the community’s welfare,” Uno stated. Meanwhile, the Head of Lebak District Tourism and Culture Office Imam Rismahayadin said that there were 800 thousand visits of both domestic and foreign tourists to his region in the last 10 months. Some popular tourist attractions in Lebak are the Negeri di Atas Awan or the “Land above the Clouds”, Saba Badui Tourism Village, Sawarna Beach, Sangkir Cave, Multatuli Museum, Cipanas Swimming Pool, Ciberang Rafting, Curugbitung Water Games, and BIM Rangkasbitung. The Lebak administration also encourages tourist visits that can boost he local economy that helps reduce the unemployment rate. “We believe that Lebak tourist destinations can grow and develop with the support of accessible (public) transportation such as the Rangkasbitung – Jakarta Commuter Line, as well as the Serang- Panimbang Toll Road,” he said.
