East Kalimantan endeavors to reduce cases of domestic violence

Samarinda, E Kalimantan (ANTARA) – The East Kalimantan provincial government strives to reduce the number of cases of domestic violence in the region by increasing women’s capacity and intensifying domestic violence prevention campaigns.

Head of the East Kalimantan Office of Population, Women’s Empowerment, and Child Protection Noryani Sorayalita stated here on Saturday that one of the triggering factors for domestic violence is the family’s economic problems.

Hence, she said, the provincial government has been conducting several empowering activities, such as entrepreneurship training, to increase women’s capacity, so that they can become more economically empowered.

Along with the district and city governments, the East Kalimantan provincial government also intensifies counseling on the prevention of domestic violence.

Sorayalita also highlighted the importance of awareness in reporting acts of domestic violence that occur at home.

Meanwhile, she pointed out that the number of domestic violence cases in East Kalimantan tended to increase.

In 2021, the number of victims of domestic violence in the province was recorded at 197 people, and as of September 1, 2022, the number increased to 203 people.

According to Sorayalita, domestic violence cases were reported in Samarinda, Bontang, and Balikpapan. Seven other regions in East Kalimantan reported no domestic violence cases.

She explained that domestic violence cases were like an iceberg phenomenon, with only a few being visible on the surface.

Unreported cases are due to the low level of public awareness, Sorayalita remarked.

She explained that some residents were embarrassed or thought domestic violence did not need to be reported to the authorities.

Therefore, she said, the provincial government also intensifies counseling to raise public awareness to report domestic violence.

Earlier, the Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry had stated that economic problems were among the causes of the high level of violence against children and women.

Hence, it is important to boost women’s empowerment in entrepreneurship from a gender perspective.

“Our investigations are being carried out at every stage, starting from match planning, preparation, implementation, to the occurrence of the riots and the handling of post-riot victims so that it can be found who is responsible at each stage,” the former head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said.

In addition, the TGIPF has visited and interviewed several parties and collected supporting evidence as material for its analysis.

Monardo earlier told reporters in Malang, East Java, that the TGIPF had gathered facts at Kanjuruhan Stadium in connection with the incident, which claimed around 131 lives.

Governor readies infrastructure to prevent flooding in Jakarta

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Outgoing Governor Anies Baswedan has prepared infrastructure to handle puddles in Jakarta caused by high-intensity rainfall, reaching 150 millimeters every two hours or higher than the daily average of 150 millimeters.

“Normally, the rainfall intensity is 150 millimeters per day, but now, we are facing 150 millimeters per two hours. You can imagine the volume of stagnant water that can cause floods in some areas,” Baswedan stated at Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) in Jakarta on Saturday.

With this condition, the low-level and sunk areas are prone to flooding due to the high intensity of rainfall, he remarked.

To this end, the governor has optimized all infrastructure needed to anticipate and accelerate the handling of floods due to extreme rains.

Earlier, the Jakarta Water Resources Service (SDA) deployed 455 stationary pumps and 457 mobile pumps to suck up water during floods that hit several locations in Jakarta a few days ago.

The water levels varied from 40 centimeters to 1.3 meters due to high rainfall and the overflowing of several rivers, including Pesanggrahan, Krukut, and Cipinang.

In addition to pumps from the SDA Service, hundreds of officers from the public infrastructure and facilities (PPSU) service and regional disaster mitigation agency (BPBD) in Jakarta were deployed in flood mitigation.

Apart from residential areas, inundation also occurs on several roads in Jakarta that led to traffic jams.

The Jakarta BPBD reminded the public to remain careful and alert to the potential for inundation due to rainfall.

In an emergency, the public can call the 24-hour helpline number 112, free of charge.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) earlier stated that extreme weather in Jakarta is expected to occur on October 2-8, 2022.

PT PP, South Korean firm to develop smart city in Nusantara

Jakarta (ANTARA) – State-owned construction and investment enterprise PT PP (Persero) Tbk has agreed to cooperate with a South Korean company to implement a smart city project in Nusantara, Indonesia’s new national capital (IKN), in East Kalimantan.

The cooperation between the two companies will ensure the best synergy between the construction and information technology sectors to provide smart city solutions in Nusantara, PT PP’s (Persero) Building Operation Director Anton Satyo Hendriatmo observed.

“The two companies will continue to review from various aspects as a follow-up on cooperation plan execution in developing a smart city in Nusantara IKN,” he said in a statement issued on Saturday.

The development of Nusantara is currently on, and the city is based on the concept of a modern smart city.

The intelligent city concept, as an extension of the smart city concept, will drive the city’s modernization through the use of technology.

The government is implementing the intelligent city concept in Nusantara to put it on par with other capital cities promoting a similar concept.

Moreover, the implementation is also expected to serve as an example for other cities in Indonesia on developing the intelligent city concept to improve the quality of resources and preserve the environment.

According to Hendriatmo, PT PP is one of the state-owned enterprises (SOEs) engaged in construction and investment that has been integrated with supporting industry.

Moreover, as a company that has expertise and experience in construction, property, procurement, infrastructure, and energy within the country and abroad, PT PP is ready to collaborate with LG CNS in implementing a smart city project in Nusantara.

VP expects MES to bolster cooperation, push sharia economy development

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Vice President Ma’ruf Amin has said that he expects the Islamic Economic Community (MES) to encourage collaboration among stakeholders to expedite sharia economy and finance development in Indonesia.

“A faster and more solid movement is needed from all Islamic economy and finance stakeholders, not only the central ones, but also the regional ones,” he added at a virtual “MES National Gathering” on Saturday.

Collaboration has been key in the progress achieved in developing the Islamic economy sector so far, he noted.

“(For instance) the establishment of BSI (PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk, which was formed through the merger of three state-run sharia banks), the conversion of Bank Riau Kepri into a sharia commercial (regional development) bank, and the establishment of a Halal Industrial Estate,” he said.

MES has also initiated a number of collaborations, such as empowering and assisting halal micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs); encouraging economic activity development in Islamic boarding schools; as well as increasing public literacy on sharia economy.

“The development of Islamic economy and finance has increased currently, although it is not significant. Thus, it urgently needs various acceleration attempts. As of June 2022, according to the OJK (Financial Services Authority), the Indonesian Islamic financial market share reached 10.41 percent, an increase from 10 percent the previous year,” the Vice President said.

Meanwhile, the community’s literacy rate regarding the sharia economy sector increased to 20 percent from 16.28 percent in 2019.

Hence, the establishment of the Regional Committee for Islamic Economy and Finance (KDEKS) in every province is a must to explore the potential of the economic sector in each region, Amin added.

So far, KDEKS have been formed in several provinces, including West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), West Sumatra, Riau, and South Sumatra.

In addition, the synergy of the Islamic finance industry and the halal product industry needs to be bolstered since halal product industry actors require sharia financial support.

“Campaigns (to promote) literacy (on the sharia economy) need to be carried out massively and effectively for all community. MES is expected to take part in increasing the number of expert human resources in the Islamic economics and finance sector,” the Vice President said.

MES must also encourage the waqf collection movement in every province. Jakarta, West Java, East Java, and Riau are some provinces that have implemented the movement.

Indonesia’s COVID-19 case count climbs by 1,325

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The number of coronavirus cases in Indonesia increased by 1,325 on Saturday, bringing the total count since March 2020 to 6,443,949, the COVID-19 task force reported.

DKI Jakarta was recorded as the province with the most additional cases at 500, followed by West Java (206), East Java (180), Banten (110), and Central Java (74).

Meanwhile, 1,541 people recovered from COVID-19 on Saturday, bringing the cumulative recoveries to 6,269,262.

According to data provided by the task force, the number of COVID-19 patients who succumbed to the virus increased by 6 on Saturday. Thus, the total death toll since the start of the pandemic reached 158,198.

On Saturday, the number of COVID-19 patients undergoing quarantine and treatment fell by 222 to 16,489.

While the government has eased restrictions on community activities that were aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19, it has continued to carry out efforts to prevent and control the transmission of the disease, including vaccinations.

The government is encouraging citizens to take the third dose or booster shot of the COVID-19 vaccine to increase their resistance to SARS-CoV-2, the type of coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

According to health expert Professor Zubairi Djoerban, vaccination is still needed to prevent the transmission of the coronavirus even though COVID-19 cases have decreased and the death rate from the disease is already low.

“The transmission has not been controlled, there are still a lot, just not as heavy as before and those who enter the hospital, who die, are few. Vaccinations must still be done,” Djoerban said.

The strategy to administer COVID-19 vaccines to at least 70 percent of the total population must continue to be implemented in all regions, including those experiencing a decline in cases, the ITAGI earlier stated.

“The pandemic has not yet been declared over either by the World Health Organization (WHO) or the head of state,” chairperson of ITAGI, Prof. Sri Rezeki, said.

In Indonesia, two emergency statuses have been set by the government related to the pandemic through Presidential Decree No. 11 of 2020 on COVID-19 determination as a public health emergency and Presidential Decree No. 12 of 2020 on the transmission of COVID-19 as a national disaster.

The two policies were adopted by the government by referring to WHO’s declaration of COVID-19 as a pandemic and a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) on January 30, 2020.

Hence, Rezeki said, the target of vaccinating at least 70 percent of the population must continue to be bolstered.

Ministry urges people to take booster vaccine

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture has urged Indonesians to take the COVID-19 booster dose as part of efforts to support the pandemic-to-endemic transition.

“Readiness to start the transition process towards endemic require support and awareness from all levels of society,” the ministry’s deputy for coordination of health quality improvement and population development, Agus Suprapto, said in Jakarta on Saturday.

Such awareness can be realized by supporting the government’s efforts to increase the coverage of COVID-19 vaccination, especially booster doses, Suprapto added.

“Increasing the (coverage of the) booster dose of the vaccination is one of the main aspects to support the transition to recovery or endemic (stage),” he said.

For this matter, the ministry is asking the public to take the COVID-19 vaccination, starting from the first dose to the third dose, without delay.

“Besides vaccination, people also need to continue to follow the health protocols, such as wearing masks, washing hands, and maintaining distance,” Suprapto continued.

Over 35,000 young farmers obtain Rp1.4 tln in people’s credit

Makassar, S Sulawesi – More than 35 thousand millennial farmers assisted by the Agriculture Ministry have succeeded in obtaining a total of Rp1.4 trillion in people’s business credit (KUR) as supporting capital, Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo has said.

“There have been 100 thousand millennial farmers who we have fostered, and so far, more than 35 thousand of them have managed to utilize the KUR, worth around Rp1.4 trillion,” he said here on Saturday.

The huge amount of the accessed capital demonstrates a great interest on part of the millennial generation in developing the agriculture sector, he added.

The minister also lauded millennial farmers for running their businesses responsibly.

Hence, the central and regional governments must continue to provide various assistances to motivate young farmers to advance their businesses, he added.

“Of course, we cannot let (millennial farmers) go (running their business alone). Assistance must be given by the government, both at the district (and city), province, as well as central level,” he stated.

Earlier, at the opening of the “Millenial Farmers Meeting II” here on Friday (October 7, 2022), Limpo had urged thousands of millennial farmers from the eastern regions of Indonesia, including Sulawesi, Maluku, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), and Papua, to prepare a modern agricultural concept using digital application systems.

“It (the digitization attempt) is important, hence Indonesia will be able to avoid the threat of global food crisis,” he said.

The most important thing for millennial farmers is to build their business concept, he added. The farmers can consult the Agriculture Ministry about their concepts using the link and website provided by the ministry.

“Just use your digital (app) and develop your (business) networking. Let’s face it together — let’s face the threat of the global (food) crisis through (bolstering the) agriculture sector,” the minister remarked.

He further said that the government has prepared capital access as well as various facilities and infrastructure for the agriculture sector, for instance, KUR.

His ministry is also preparing an agricultural tools and machinery units (alsintan) taxi program, which will allow farmers to rent alsintan.
