This event – the most important of its kind in Chile – will be held in-person for the first time since 2019 and is expected to attract over a hundred multinational companies.

The forum will include a plenary session with 450 attendees, which will be chaired by the President of Chile, Gabriel Boric. Participants with a range of perspectives will discuss the investment situation in a context of uncertainty and global challenges, local prospects for business development, and cases where foreign investment is being used to develop solutions for sustainability and inclusion in Chile.

Among the contributors from Chile who have confirmed their participation are Economy Minister Nicolás Grau, Treasury Minister Mario Marcel, and InvestChile Executive Director Karla Flores. Representatives from Séché Group (France), Aquafil (Italy), Phibion (Australia) and AWS (United States) will also take part. Representatives from the Mining Ministry, Energy Ministry and Public Works Ministry are also expected to participate and will announce investment opportunities within their respective portfolios.

Why should companies apply?

As part of the event, InvestChile will stage exclusive breakout sessions, where foreign companies will have the opportunity to meet directly with relevant authorities and key players from specific sectors, who will give them first-hand information about the market, public portfolios, projections and country plans for these industries. Farmers, fishers at center of agri-food systems’ transformation: FAO

The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in commemoration of World Food Day on October 16, called for smallholder farmers and fishers to be at the center of transformation of agri-food systems.

“Smallholders need to be at the center of the global agri-food system transformation,” FAO representative in Indonesia and Timor Leste Rajendra Aryal said, as noted in a release issued by FAO on Friday.

This year, World Food Day launches a resounding call for action and global solidarity to transform agri-food systems in a bid to foster inclusive economic growth, address inequalities, increase resilience, and achieve sustainable development, according to FAO.

“Leaving no one behind: Better Production, Better Nutrition, Better Environment and Better Life” is the theme for World Food Day this year.

“The theme reflects that today the world faces profound food security challenges as a result of conflict, economic crises, climate emergency, environmental degradation and the knock-on effects of COVID-19,” the FAO stated.

Nevertheless, we need to continue our efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 Agenda for everyone, everywhere, it said.

The food and agriculture organization highlighted that food prices had soared to record high this year, fertilizers were becoming too expensive for several farmers, and the number of people facing food insecurity had been rising unabated.

“Rising food prices affect all of us, but the impacts are felt the most by the vulnerable and by countries already experiencing a food crisis,” Aryal said.

Based on the FAO data, today, 3.1 billion people around the world still cannot afford a healthy diet, and hunger continues to rise. Such a condition has affected 828 million people in 2021, an increase of about 46 million people since 2020 and 150 million since 2019.

In just two years, the number of acutely food insecure people had risen, from 135 million in 2019 to193 million in 2021, and 2022 is likely to prove worse, according to FAO.

The organization also projected that some 970 thousand people are living or expected to live in famine conditions in five countries — Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan and Yemen — ten folds higher than six years ago when only two countries had populations facing similar conditions.

“We need decent rural employment and services and end child labor while fostering gender equality and supporting rural people, who are the custodians of much of the earth’s biodiversity,” Aryal remarked.

To honor the pledge to leave no one behind, he deemed it critical to transform the agri-food systems to be more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable for better production, nutrition, environment and life for all.

“Agriculture is among the most cost-effective humanitarian interventions,” he concluded.

All audited stadiums’ renovation based on FIFA’s standards: govt

All football stadiums currently being audited by the government will be renovated and rebuilt in accordance with FIFA’s standards, Youth and Sports Minister Zainudin Amali informed the media crew here Friday.

The minister, however, did not specifically mention which stadiums will be renovated.

However, after the survey with the Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono at Kanjuruhan Stadium, the government agreed that the audit process will focus on stadiums generally used for the national football league competition.

The audit also focuses on stadiums with a general attendance of a large number of spectators.

Amali made assurance that the renovation will align with FIFA’s standards, including the use of single seats. Currently, only some stadiums in Indonesia have single seat facility.

These stadiums include the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Manahan Solo Stadium, GElora Bung Tomo Stadium, Papua Bangkit Stadium, I Wayang Dipta Stadium, and Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium.

“Our temporary projection is that Kanjuruhan Stadium will be similar to Manahan Solo Stadium since Manahan has already been inspected by FIFA,” he noted.

“This is still being planned. It may begin next year. Hence, clubs that use those stadiums, whether Liga 1, Liga 2, and Liga 3, have to look for other places until it (the renovation) is complete,” he added.

Amali and Hadimuljono visited Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang, East Java, on Thursday. According to the audit results, several points had become the main considerations for the total renovation process.

These points include the lack of stairs in the economic stands for spectators, doors in the stadium, and the lack of emergency doors.

These also include lighting in the stadium area, improper restroom for spectators, buffer perimeter for spectators, and guardrail that spectators can easily jump over.

The renovation is also undertaken as a follow up to FIFA’s direction through its letter to President Joko Widodo to develop the stadium’s security standards in Indonesia.

The joint independent fact-finding team (TGIPF) also provided its recommendation to Haldimuljono’s ministry to conduct comprehensive renovation of all football stadiums, specifically ones used for Liga 1 and Liga 2 based on FIFA’s safety standards.

All financing for the total renovation of Kanjuruhan Stadium will utilize fund from the state budget. However, the amount of funding required for the renovation had yet to be established.

Ministry striving to meet national need for digital talents

The Communication and Informatics Ministry is continuing to strive to meet the need for national digital talents this year through a number of programs.

“The Communication and Informatics Ministry is continuing to conduct digital literacy programs for the basic level, the Digital Talent Scholarship for the intermediate level, and the Digital Leadership Academy for the advanced level,” Director General of Information and Public Communication at the ministry Usman Kansong said in a written statement received on Saturday.

According to surveys conducted by the World Bank and McKinsey, Indonesia will need 9 million digital talents in the 15-year period from 2015 to 2030. To meet this need, Indonesia needs to produce 600 thousand digital talents every year.

The ministry can only meet a third of the annual need, or 200 thousand people, through its programs.

Thus, it is collaborating with educational institutions to fulfill the need for 400 thousand digital talents.

The response to Purwadhika Digital Technology School, which has just been inaugurated in the Special Economic Zone of Nongsa Digital Park in Batam City, Riau Islands, has been positive.

The digital school is expected to help meet the national need for digital talents.

The ministry has consistently hosted programs over the past few years to train people in the digital sector.

Since its launch in 2017, 12.5 million people have been trained under the digital talent development program. This year, the ministry targets the digital literacy program to cover 5.5 million people.

The Digital Talent Scholarship program is intended for college or high school graduates. The ministry is working with partners, including universities, to train 200 thousand participants this year.

The Digital Leadership Academy program is being conducted to train leaders and executives in both the public and private sectors. This year, 400 slots have been made available in the quota for the academy.

G20 Summit: Indonesian govt finalizing security arrangements

The Indonesian Government is continuing to finalize various aspects of security arrangements ahead of the G20 Summit in Bali, which will be organized under the Indonesian G20 Presidency in November 2022.

“Security arrangements have been readied in various aspects, including cybersecurity, strict monitoring at Bali’s entry and exit points, and natural disaster mitigation,” State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Spokesperson Wawan Hari Purwanto informed in a statement issued here on Saturday.

Despite the extensive security arrangements and vigilance, security officers will remain friendly to locals, he affirmed.

According to Purwanto, the G20 Summit security preparations are needed to provide security to and ensure the comfort of delegates and as a preventive measure against possible threats.

The police will deploy more than eight thousand personnel to secure the summit and related events in Bali, he noted.

Meanwhile, the chief of Bali Police, Inspector General Jayan Danu Putra, said that officers from Bali Police and the Police Headquarters will work together to secure the summit.

The military will deploy six thousand personnel to assist the police in securing G20 activities in the island province, IX/Udayana Military Commander Major General Sonny Aprianto confirmed.

“Some two thousand personnel will be deployed to anticipate natural disasters,” he said.

G20 security must be ensured to maintain Indonesia’s image among the global community, and all parties must synergize to protect Indonesia from all threats that could potentially harm the nation’s positive image, Aprianto added.

Moreover, Director General of Information and Public Communication at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics Usman Kansong said that meetings and on-site monitoring are constantly being held by President Joko Widodo and ministry officials.

“Routine meetings are being organized to (provide) update (on) the progress of telecommunications infrastructure development, which is the ministry’s task,” Kansong informed.

Philippines, BKKBN hold Bridging Leadership in eight regions

National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) and Philippines representatives hold “Bridging Leadership for Eight District on the issue of Family Planning, Reproductive Health and Maternal Child Health Including Stunting Reduction” in Indonesia’s eight regions.

“Bridging Leadership is a type of leadership suitable in multi-stakeholder promotion to handle the social injustice issue,” Head of BKKBN Hasto Wardoyo noted through a statement on Saturday.

“This is about leading collaborative action to realize social change which, in this context, means the family planning issue, including stunting,” he stated.

The hybrid event is held on October 13-14, 2022, in the eight regions of West Aceh, Lahat, Malang, Jember, Brebes, Serang, East Lombok, and Garut.

Bridging Leadership itself has three stages. The first stage is called ownership stage that embraces a person’s responsibility over social issues, including understanding and accepting their role in the problem.

Through an understanding of the problem’s complexity, participants can become leaders capable of involving stakeholders in a relevant manner in finding solutions, he explained.

Bridging Leadership’s second stage involves co-ownership wherein participants will always conduct dialogue with the people to be able to align differences in belief, value, perspective, and insight toward problems.

The expected results come in the form of common vision and collective action between leaders and the people.

“In the second stage, they should be able to disseminate information on innovation to become a collaborative innovation by sharing it with stakeholders and should be able to implement it and ensure its continuity,” Wardoyo remarked.

Meanwhile, Bridging Leadership’s third stage concerns co-creation. In this stage, participants should learn about harmonization involving all stakeholders effectively, so that they can implement collaborative innovation.

If all parties already fulfilled their respective duties and it impacts the people, then collaborative innovation would change to social innovation, he noted.

The event is a follow up from the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed within the South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) framework.

It states that the two countries are committed to exchanging experiences in family planning and reproductive health education.

“I expect that training participants can remove negative attitudes they have to become a better professional,” Wardoyo remarked.

Family, Women, Child, Youth, and Sport Director at the National Development Planning Ministry Woro Srihatuti Sulistyaningrum expects that the activity can improve the leaders’ capability in developing and implementing various program activities.

She expects that participants can formulate solutions and lead evaluation to measure effectiveness and relevancy in program achievement.

This includes integration between budget planning and model in expediting the reduction of maternal mortality rate and improving regional leaders’ commitment in planning and budgeting to support the Mid-Term National Development Program (RPJMN) target achievement.

Childhood stunting prevalence in Banten reaches 24.5%

The prevalence of childhood stunting in Banten Province has reached 24.5 percent, the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) has reported.

Banten’s stunting prevalence rate is higher than the national rate, which is 24.1 percent, Head of the BKKBN’s Center for Population and Family Planning, Education, and Training Lalu Makripuddin said here on Saturday.

“There are 12 provinces that are prioritized in Indonesia for stunting case handling. One of them is Banten because the figure is quite high, both in terms of total numbers and percentage, which has reached 24.5 percent,” he noted.

Given the high stunting prevalence, it is hoped that all relevant agencies and parties will participate in efforts against stunting so that the national target set by the central government to reduce the stunting rate to 14 percent can be reached by 2024.

“Nationally, the target is 14 percent, and it is hoped that Banten can also reach 14 percent,” Makripuddin said.

Cases of stunting in Indonesia are still occurring because there are children or adolescents who are still at risk of suffering from chronic energy deficiency (CED), he explained.

Therefore, providing assistance or education to prospective young brides is crucial in efforts to prevent or reduce the number of stunting cases.

“The support from Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives, which added the budget for this education program, has been very helpful. Thus, we currently have sufficient budget to carry out dissemination (of information) to the community,” he remarked.

According to Makripuddin, reducing the stunting prevalence rate will require not only the strengthening of synergy and collaboration between all parties but also the participation of the community.

“For that reason, we developed the ‘Foster Fathers of Stunted Children’ (program) and developed partnerships with one thousand partners for the first thousand days of life,” he added.
