PT Timah plants 4,600 mangrove seeds on Belolaut coast

State-owned tin mining firm PT Timah Tbk has planted 4,600 mangrove seeds on Belolaut coast in Bangka Belitung Islands Province as part of its commitment to conserving the environment.

PT Timah Tbk planted the mangrove seeds in cooperation with the West Bangka District Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) and local residents.

The mangrove planting movement is expected to make the public aware of the need to love and restore the environment as before, West Bangka District’s Assistant for Administrative and General Affairs Herzon stated on Friday.

Mangroves play an important role in preserving the coastal ecosystem, as they function as abrasion barriers and as a habitat for fish, shrimp, crabs, and other marine species.

“The West Bangka District Administration praises PT Timah for its contributions and benefits to the coastal community in Belolaut Village. May (the activity using) the CSR (corporate social responsibility) fund continue and ensure success in the future,” he stated.

PT Timah Tbk General Manager Ahmad Syamhadi said the company’s presence is inseparable from the dynamics of Bangka Belitung, particularly West Bank, as the hub of tin exports.

“As its corporate obligation, (PT Timah Tbk) has planted mangrove trees on account of the positive impact. Today, we planted 4,600 mangrove seeds on Belolaut coast,” he stated.

The activity is part of the company’s commitment to conserving the environment, and the activity has, so far, yielded good results and will be continued and improved in the future, he remarked.
