Jakarta invites investment from Singapore investors for two projects

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has invited investment from Singaporean investors for two infrastructure projects: the development of open space facilities at Fatmawati MRT Station and transit facilities in Pegangsaan Dua.

“This is the embodiment of Jakarta as a province that has adequate connectivity to drive economic activities,” Baswedan said in a press statement released here on Thursday.

He made the offer during an online seminar, ‘Insight into Investment Opportunities in Jakarta’, held by the Jakarta provincial government, which was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Investment / Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) and the Indonesia Investment Promotion Centre in Singapore.

Jakarta’s economic growth improved in the second quarter of 2021 to reach 10.91 percent, Baswedan noted.

The growth was driven by domestic consumption, which has been one of the indicators of Jakarta’s economic recovery, he explained.

Moreover, the governor also assured that bureaucratic reforms have made the ecosystem of investing and opening a business in Jakarta more conducive. Hence, he said he considers Jakarta to be one of Singapore’s strategic partners.

To encourage investment that can provide sustainable benefits, he said his administration is committed to offering the best service to investors.

Meanwhile, head of the One-Stop Integrated Investment Service Jakarta (DPMPTSP), Benni Aguscandra, said the positive economic growth in Jakarta is a momentum to catch investment opportunities.

The progress of foreign investments (PMA) in Jakarta has shown a positive trend, he noted.

Based on data from the Investment Coordinating Board, in the second quarter of 2021, PMA in Jakarta had reached 0.96 billion or equivalent to Rp14.1 trillion, he pointed out.

Jakarta DPMPTSP has made several efforts to improve the city’s realization of investment to expand employment, enhance the community’s economy and Indonesia’s competitiveness in the Asian market, he said.

Based on BKPM data for the January-June period this year, the realization of foreign investment in Jakarta has reached US$2 billion, he noted.

Singapore was Indonesia’s largest investor during the first half of 2021, with investments reaching US$4.7 billion.
