Stronger collaboration with World Bank needed to reduce stunting: VP

While receiving a World Bank delegation at the Vice President’s Palace on Wednesday, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin expressed his expectation of an improvement in partnership with the global organization to address stunting in Indonesia.

“We still really need partnerships with international institutions, with the World Bank, with UNDP (United Nations Development Programme), FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization), to be able to address (stunting cases),” he said, according to a press release issued the same day.

Through cooperation and collaboration with international institutions, the government is continuing to pursue efforts to reduce the stunting rate to 14 percent by 2024 in order to build superior and highly competitive human resources.

Amin said the government has continued to formulate strategies to reduce the stunting rate in Indonesia through the convergence, collaboration, and exploration of all the potential that the nation has.

He further said that the efforts have involved building synergy and collaboration among stakeholders, such as ministries and agencies, regional governments, and the private sector, under the coordination of the National Population and Family Planning Agency.

“So, it is this collaborative work that we rely on; so, we have mapped out that this year, a 5-percent reduction will be achieved through the steps that have been programmed,” the Vice President noted.

At the meeting with the World Bank delegates, the Vice President expressed his appreciation for the assistance and support that the World Bank has extended to the program to achieve stunting reduction in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, vice president for human development at the World Bank, Mamta Murthi, said that the organization will provide full funding support for the goal.

“We will continue to support to provide additional funding and will expedite financial support,” Murthi stated.

The World Bank will also continue to collaborate with ministries and agencies as well as offer funding to support efforts to reduce the stunting rate in the next 6 to 12 months.

Hotspots, area affected by fires shrinking every year: ministry

The number of hotspots and areas affected by forest and land fires in Indonesia has continued to decline every year, Director for Forest and Land Fire Mitigation at the Environment and Forestry Ministry Basar Manullang said.

“According to the database, there has been a decrease in the number of hotspots from 2015 to 2022, since every morning, all Manggala Agni (forest fire brigades of the ministry) are required to check (the condition of their) operational areas. Furthermore, there is also a significant decrease in the area affected by forest and land fires,” he informed at the Climate Festival 2022 webinar on Wednesday.

In 2015, there were 70,971 hotspots, a decline of 20.4 percent from 89,214 in 2014, he said.

Although the numbers increased again in 2018 and 2019, they were still far below the number of hotspots in 2014, he noted. There were only 9,245 and 29,341 hotspots in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

The number dropped sharply to 2,568 in 2020, 1,451 in 2021, and 1,245 in 2022.

“(The decline in) 2020, 2021, and 2022 was very significant. We are very grateful for God’s blessing to Indonesia as well as the more integrated attempts to control forest and land fires on site conducted by our Manggala Agni’s fellows,” the director said.

The area affected by forest and land fires stood at 2.6 million hectares in 2015, he added. In the succeeding years, the area managed to be maintained far below the figure.

The area affected by forest and land fires in the period from 2016 to 2021 was recorded at 438,363 hectares, 165,484 hectares, 510,564 hectares, 1,649,258 hectares, 296,942 hectares, and 358,864 hectares, respectively.

Meanwhile, during the period from January to September 2022, the total area reached just 183,743 hectares.

The figure declined 20 percent year-on-year (yoy) in January–September 2022, Manullang said.

In the future, he said he expects Manggala Agni, as the forerunners of forest and land fire mitigation in Indonesia, to continue to optimize cooperation with various local stakeholders on site as well as increase their competency and capacity.

Various innovations are also required to improve disaster mitigation efforts, he added.

Unmet need for family planning in Bali still high:BKKBN

The unmet need for family planning in Bali is still high despite the fact that the province has the lowest birth rate in Indonesia, the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) has said.

The birth rate in Bali is 1.9 live births per woman per year, meaning that one woman in Bali only gives birth to one or two children throughout her reproductive period, Bali BKKBN representative head Ni Luh Gede Sukardiasih noted.

Unfortunately, the unmet need percentage, according to data from the 2021 Family Data Collection (PK21), has only been 17.90 percent realized from the 7.94 percent target, she said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

This should prompt a collective consideration to increase the participation of fertile age couples in family planning, especially long-term contraception, she added.

The new family planning target achievement in Bali, specifically for the use of intrauterine devices (IUDs) and implants, according to the 2022 SIGA data, is still very low, she noted.

Of the total target of 11,507 IUDs, only 1,605 or 13.95 percent have been realized.

Meanwhile, of the new implant target of 1,732, only 564 or 32.56 percent have been realized.

Based on the results of field activity, the target of 45 acceptors has been met. However, there are no post-labor family planning services available at health facilities.

Sukardiasih said that it is regrettable that participants do not have the opportunity to immediately access family planning after labor.

Therefore, the Bali BKKBN representative and the Bali Public Health Training Center (Bapelkesmas) are holding the second batch of contraception service training for doctors and midwives using blended learning or theory-and-practice method.

She said she expects all training participants to follow the activity as best they can so that the practice results can be directly applied to the target population.

“This activity is an effort to maximize the quality of family planning services by strengthening the capacity of health workers. This is one form of BKKBN’s appreciation toward health workers,” she added.

Women can be agents of peace in fight against terror: BNPT

The National Counter Terrorism Agency (BNPT) has said that women can be agents of peace and efforts to enhance their role in preventing terrorism must be enhanced.

“We encourage women’s organizations at this event to become agents of peace,” head of the BNPT’s counter-propaganda sub-directorate, Solahuddin Nasution, said here on Wednesday.

At a workshop organized with the Central Sulawesi Terrorism Prevention Coordination Forum (FKTP) at Palu’s Alkhairaat University and involving national women’s organizations, the BNPT official said that women have the ability to promote and raise awareness to fight all forms of terror propaganda.

Given their vital role in the family, women have a strategic role to protect the family and their community from terror propaganda, he said.

“A mother can be a dialogue partner with her child, and as a wife, she could become a discussion partner with her husband on various aspects, for instance, on comprehension of religious teachings,” Nasution added.

He said that women are also expected to be early detectors of anomalies occurring within their families.

The household is the primary educational institution, as from there, children start studying all aspects around them, including social, cultural, and religious values, he noted.

“Educating children within the family is the parent’s reciprocal duty, yet the position of women is as a mother, which has a greater emotional intimacy with their children. Hence, children’s character and personality development depend upon the women,” the BNPT sub-directorate head said.

Meanwhile, head of the Central Sulawesi FKPT’s women’s affairs department, Nurhayati, said that women could initiate peace in their respective regions.

Women must be aware of their surroundings to prevent themselves from becoming involved as suspects or victims in acts of terror, she added.

Govt acts swiftly in handling acute kidney injury cases: ministry

The government has acted swiftly in handling acute kidney injury in children given its peculiar progression compared to earlier kidney failure cases, Head of the Health Ministry’s Public Communication Bureau Siti Nadia Tarmizi has said.

“Last August, we received the report that acute kidney failure cases surged significantly to 36 cases, hence, in early September, we promptly clarified the information by verifying the data with the Indonesian Paediatrician Association (IDAI) data,” Tarmizi informed during a discussion on Wednesday.

After deliberations on the emerging cases, the IDAI concurred that the kidney injury cases were different from earlier known cases, she said.

The ministry official highlighted that in children suffering from acute kidney injury, urine production drops suddenly to zero without any symptoms, while kidney failure is commonly known to be preceded by congenital, infectious, or other diseases.

“What we found now is that the disease is rapidly deteriorating with no particular symptom,” Tarmizi said.

The ministry is yet to find a consistent cause for acute kidney injury in spite of conducting various experiments involving culturing viruses, bacteria, and fungus from patients’ urine and blood samples, she added.

Moreover, in the period from August to October 2022, hemodialysis failed to improve the condition of children suffering from acute kidney injury though the practice normally increases the possibility of recovery by up to 90 percent, the official added.

“Only 30 percent (of acute kidney injury patients) in the August–September period recovered completely,” Tarmizi said.

The government has continued to investigate the surge in acute kidney injury cases, she informed.

Need greater women’s participation in political decision-making: DPR

Women’s participation in the decision-making process at political and public institutions, including the government and the parliament, needs to be increased, Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Puan Maharani has said.

“Women’s role is necessary because women can enrich the perspective of public policy so that the policy can benefit the entire community,” Maharani argued here on Wednesday.

She conveyed the statement at the “Empowering Women to Overcome Future Crises,” a special forum for Asia-Pacific women parliament members, which was held before the opening of the 30th Annual Congress of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF 30) in Thailand.

The House Speaker said the involvement of women in public policy decision-making will result in a more inclusive process.

According to her, society should not ignore women’s participation in global and regional development, including in the Asia-Pacific.

She also highlighted the various challenges to women’s leadership in some parts of the world, such as cultural and structural issues.

“Until now, there is still a need for struggle in facing culturally rooted sentiments against women and policies that are not gender-responsive,” she stated.

The House Speaker also cited the rules in Law No. 12 of 2014 concerning General Elections that stipulate that 30 percent of seats in the House be filled by women.

She also revealed that there has been an increase in the number of female members in the House of Representatives from 17.3 percent to 21.39 percent during the 2019–2024 period.

According to her, Indonesia has seen an increase in women leaders in various fields and continued to strive to produce policies that favor women’s empowerment.

“Women have been part of the leadership of many public institutions in Indonesia, and they represent the progress of women in Indonesia,” she said.

HAI ROBOTICS exhibits HAIPICK A3 Fork-lifting ACR for the first time in Southeast Asia during LogiMAT Intelligent Warehouse

SINGAPORE, Oct. 26, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — HAI ROBOTICS, the pioneer in Autonomous Case-handling Robot (ACR) systems for warehouse logistics, is making waves at the 2022 LogiMAT Intelligent Warehouse, exhibiting its latest fleet of ACRs and HAIPORT-powered workstations. Taking center stage is the HAIPICK A3 Fork-Lifting ACR, newly introduced in Southeast Asia, as well as the telescopic HAIPICK A42T.

Founded in Germany, LogiMAT, the International Trade Show for Intralogistics Solutions and Process Management, has expanded its reach to Thailand and surrounding countries this year for the first time with LogiMat Intelligent Warehouse.

Taking place in Bangkok from October 26th-28th, the event serves as a platform for businesses looking to expand in the Southeast Asian market.

“This is one of the biggest showcases of warehousing solutions yet in Southeast Asia,” said Will Fan, Sales Director SEA, Middle East & Hong Kong. “We look forward to demonstrating how our robotics systems can solve manpower issues, especially after Covid.”

With up to 5.5m (18 feet) picking height, the newly introduced HAIPICK A3 Fork-Lifting ACR greatly improves storage space utility and adaptability to manufacturing operations:

  • Flexible picking- Including trays, tires, foam boxes, etcetera, meeting different manufacturing industries’ needs (especially within Southeast Asia’s manufacturing sector).
  • Flexible Integration- Software platform integrates with most upstream software platforms for orchestrating and automating warehousing and manufacturing processes.
  • CE/NTRL certification- Ensuring safe and reliable use.

The HAIPICK A42T Telescopic ACR is also standing out, with its capability of picking and storing plastic totes and carton boxes up to 10m high (32.8 feet).

A shortage of manpower is affecting Southeast Asia’s manufacturing industry in the wake of the Covid pandemic. Foreign recruitment freezes, border controls, and quarantines across the region have significantly reduced migrant workers available for manufacturing. These challenges are pushing companies to start adopting automated warehouse solutions.

Fan said, “We’ve served clients in several sectors, especially in e-commerce and manufacturing. Our logistics solutions and services expertise can help enterprises in the region overcome challenges and find global success. From our regional headquarters in Singapore, we’ll continue working with our partners to provide warehouse solutions through any challenges.”

Fan continued, “Our automation projects are also backed by comprehensive after-sales services. Let us show you how automation reduces dependency on people, reduces costs, and increases efficiency in your business.”
