Widodo seeks realization of EIB investment plan

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), during a meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Monday, sought the realization of the European Investment Bank’s (EIB’s) investment plan for Indonesia.

“I welcome the European Commission’s support for Indonesia’s G20 Presidency and encourage the realization of cooperation in the energy transition, including the European Investment Bank’s investment plan in Indonesia,” he said in a press statement issued the same day.

The bilateral meeting between Widodo and von der Leyen was held ahead of the G20 Summit meeting to be held on Tuesday .

Widodo said that he has sought progress in negotiations on the Indonesia-Europe Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IU-CEPA).

He also expressed concern over trade discrimination against Indonesian products.

During the meeting, Widodo invited the European Union to become a peace partner in the Indo-Pacific.

Meanwhile, according to a statement released by the press bureau of the Presidential Secretariat, von der Leyen praised Indonesia’s leadership of the G20, which has continued to strive to formulate joint solutions to global crises.

Indonesia is seen as a trusted partner in various strategic issues, including renewable energy and food security.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi; Minister of Trade, Zulkifli Hasan; and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Arifin Tasrif, were also present at the meeting.
