Not thought of running for Jakarta governor post: Patria

Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria has said that he has not yet given thought to running for the post of governor in 2024, but is ready to take on the deputy governor mantle again if nominated.

He further said he is focusing on ensuring the success of the medium-term regional development plan designed by Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan at present.

“I had conveyed it before DPRD (the Provincial Legislative Council) appointed me (as vice governor) at that time. If I was elected a deputy governor for the next 2.5 years and can perform my duties properly I will be ready to become deputy governor again,” he said on Wednesday.

Patria was appointed Jakarta deputy governor in place of Sandiaga Uno, who is currently the tourism and creative economy minister.

He said he is looking forward to maintaining a more conducive political situation in Jakarta and that he has not thought of running for Jakarta governor in 2024.

Moreover, Patria said, he was elected deputy governor when Anies Baswedan took over as governor. Therefore, he said he must stick to the mandate to help make Baswedan’s program a success by October 2022.

“So, I ask all parties not to think so far as the governor election in 2024,” he said.

Earlier, chief of the board of patrons of the Jakarta provincial executive board of the Greater Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party, Mohammad Taufik, had disclosed several names that the party may nominate in the gubernatorial election in 2024.

Besides Patria, the list included former South Tangerang mayor Airin Rachmi Diany, chairman of the Democrat Party, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, and Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia.
