The National Children’s Day (HAN), commemorated every July 23, offers a reminder for parents to pay attention to their children’s growth and development, Indonesian Child Protection Agency (LPAI) Chairman Dr. Seto Mulyadi said.

“National Children’s Day reminds us of the importance of parents paying attention to children’s growth and development,” he said when contacted here on Sunday.

Mulyadi explained that parents need to make sure whether their children have grown and developed well, according to their stages of age.

“In addition, parents also need to introspect whether they have given enough time to accompany their children because children have the right to get guidance and enough time to interact with their parents,” he explained.

Optimal interaction between parents and children, he said, will support children’s growth and development.

“Thus, children will grow and develop well, with their parents’ care and affection,” he stated.

The LPAI chairman added that the commemoration of National Children’s Day is also a reminder to all parties that children need to be valued, and their rights of protection and to develop, need to be fulfilled.

“All parties in question are parents, educators, the community, to the government; All of them need to play an active role in efforts to fulfill the right of children to be valued, to grow and develop well, and to get protection,” he pointed out.

The National Children’s Day commemoration is expected to increase public awareness and understanding of the importance of fulfilling children’s rights, Mulyadi remarked.

“This is very important because children are the nation’s next generation who will later continue building the country,” he said.

Furthermore, he revealed, in the endeavors of growing children to become a quality generation, they need to receive good parenting, good nutrition, and good character education.

The Samarinda city police have arrested two men who might belong to a Malaysia-Indonesia drug ring, and seized some 514 grams of crystal methamphetamine from them, a police officer said.

The suspected drug couriers were identified  by their initials as SF alias Uli (29) and MS alias Paci (67), Samarinda City Police Chief Adjunct Sen.Coms.Ary Fadli said in a press statement that ANTARA quoted here Sunday.

SF and MS were nabbed when their car passed through a spot check of people and vehicles local cops conducted on the road in front of the Sungai Pinang police precinct on July 10, 2022 at 08:30 p.m., he said.

The Sungai Pinang police officers could identify the suspects thanks to information on them, given earlier by the Samarinda city police, he said.

SF and MS transported the drug package from Nunukan in North Kalimantan Province to be then traded in Samarinda, the capital of East Kalimantan Province, he said.

The suspects told the police investigators that they got the crystal meth package from Paci’s son who has been declared a fugitive, Fadli said.

The police investigators suspected that the package was delivered from Malaysia, and SF and MS belong to an international drug syndicate, he added.

Domestic and transnational drug dealers view Indonesia as a potential market owing to its huge population and millions of drug users. The drug trade in the nation is valued at nearly Rp66 trillion.

People from all strata of society are falling prey to drugs in the country regardless of their socioeconomic and professional backgrounds.

Over the past few decades, the Indonesian government has taken harsh punitive action against drug barons found smuggling and trading drugs in the country.

The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has sought capital punishment for those involved in drug trade in the country.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo has also issued shoot-at-sight orders against drug kingpins.

However, this has failed to deter drug traffickers, who continue to treat Indonesia as a main market, prompting Indonesian law enforcers to step up vigilance against them.
