Pertamina confirms fuel supply unaffected by Balikpapan Refinery fire

State-run oil company PT Pertamina stated that the fire incident at Plant 5, one of the units in the Balikpapan Refinery area, did not affect fuel supply for the community.

“We will optimize the stock contained in the tank. However, we are also preparing plans for additional product raw materials to replace the need for HOMC components from Plant 5 that are needed to produce fuel,” Communication, Relations, and CSR Area Manager at Balikpapan Refinery, Ely Chandra, noted in a press statement on Monday.

Pertamina guarantees that the fuel stock at the Balikpapan Refinery is still sufficient to meet the supply needs to the fuel terminal in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan.

The Pertamina International refinery will use Pertamina Patra Niaga’s components taken from the Tanjung Uban Fuel Terminal. High Octane Mogas Component (HOMC) is a component needed to produce high octane fuel, such as Pertamax.

Chandra remarked that fuel production and supply for the community can still run normally without any problems. In fact, Pertamina has, in coordination with the Pertamina Group, readied a supply transfer scenario to anticipate and ensure the fulfillment of the people’s fuel needs.

Currently, the company’s internal officers continue to make efforts to restore refinery operations to ensure that Plant 5 can immediately return to maximum operation, including making production arrangements in other units in the refinery, so that they can produce optimally.

“The repair of Plant 5 is scheduled to be completed in the next seven days. We ensure that fuel production can continue to run safely,” Chandra remarked.

On May 15, 2022, at around 10:30 local time, an explosion occurred at the Pertamina Refinery in Balikpapan. The explosion was heard up to two kilometers from the facility.

Chandra explained that the explosion came from the Plant 5 Unit Hydro Skimming Complex used for preparing raw materials for gasoline products, such as Pertalite and Pertamax.

TransJakarta, int’l institution to cooperate on data management

Regional government-run transportation company PT TransJakarta has entered into research and data management cooperation with an international institution to support comprehensive electric vehicle operation by 2030.

In a statement issued on Monday, PT TransJakarta’s president director, M. Yana Aditya, said that the company is carrying out several global-scale collaborative efforts to reach that target.

PT TransJakarta’s cooperation with Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) to manage data and research supports energy transition adaptation in the form of shifting to electric buses, he informed.

A cooperation agreement was signed to this effect in London, England, on Friday by Aditya and BNEF global head of client relations, Benji Kafri, and was witnessed by Governor of Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, and CEO of BNEF, John Moore.

Baswedan, who earlier held a meeting with the institution’s chief editor, noted that Jakarta is targeting to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

“This was an interesting discussion on sustainable mobility or sustainable development of public transportation. We exchanged ideas on climate change mitigation steps,” he said.

In addition, he also talked about the development of sidewalks for pedestrians, bike lanes, multimode public transportation integration, and several other initiatives.

TransJakarta’s cooperation with BNEF, a provider of strategic research on global commodity markets and disruptive technology, is expected to help drive the transition to a low-carbon economy.

According to Aditya, the cooperation is a form of the Jakarta provincial government’s commitment to participating in realizing the fossil-fuel-free road map program initiated by C40 Cities.

“To follow up on this, we are committed to conducting the transition from conventional buses to electric buses, with the target of 50 percent bus (fleet transformation) by 2025 and the entire bus (fleet) by 2030,” he informed.

Demak Police to monitor public farms to prevent FMD transmission

The Demak Police Department and Livestock and Animal Health Division at the Agriculture Office conducted monitoring for each farmer to check the health condition of livestock to prevent the spread of foot and mouth disease (FMD).

Chief of the Demak Police Department Adjunct Senior Commissioner Budi Adhy Buono stated on Monday that the areas targeted for monitoring were the Karangtengah Animal Market and cattle and buffalo farms in Wilalung Village, Gajah Sub-District.

“This monitoring is the second of its kind because previously, (we) also went to the largest cattle farm in Demak District, which is owned by PT Utomo, to compel farmers to improve the cleanliness of their cages and check the health of livestock to anticipate the spread of the FMD virus in Demak,” he remarked.

He also instructed his staff to educate farmers and traders of the FMD virus, both at the animal market and community farms.

These efforts were expedited to assist the regional government in preventing the spread of FMD in Demak.

“The health check-up of livestock to anticipate the spread of the FMD virus in Demak District is a follow-up to the instructions from National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo,” he remarked.

The National Police is also ready to provide assistance and supervision in handling FMD.

Buono affirmed readiness to assist stakeholders in conducting strict monitoring of the treatment and livestock trading processes, so that FMD did not spread in Demak.

According to the Chief of Demak Police Department’s instruction, the chiefs of police sectors and community police officers had to work with the national defense force, the livestock office, and animal medical personnel.

If FMD outbreaks could be prevented and handled seriously, it would minimize the farmers’ potential losses, he stated.

It could be started by monitoring the situation to find if there were livestock infected with FMD. In the event of some cattle being found to have contracted the disease, then treatment could be offered immediately.

Demak District was still safe from FMD outbreaks until now.

Jayapura Police set up ‘reading and writing house’ for schoolchildren

The Jayapura Police Department has prepared a “house for reading and writing” to assist the Jayapura district government, Papua, in offering basic education services to residents.

Chief of the department, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Fredrickus Maclarimboen, said that the house, dubbed Rumah Gabus (House of Reading and Writing Movement), seeks to eliminate illiteracy among Papuan people.

“The only dream of the Jayapura Police Department is for Papua to have no more illiterate generation,” he remarked in Sentani on Monday.

According to Maclairmboen, the Rumah Gabus is the first of its kind in Jayapura district. In the future, it will also cater to Papuan mothers, apart from children.

“We will collaborate with competent stakeholders to teach mamas here, (those) who want to learn to make creative products or innovations so that they can provide economic benefits for their families,” he said.

The house, an initiative of his administration, will offer benefits as it would suppress the rate of illiteracy in their jurisdiction, he added.

Chief of Kemtuk Police Department, First Police Inspector Usriyanto, seconded Maclarimboen’s statement, saying that at Rumah Gabus, children aged 16–17 years could take packages A, B, or C for their studies.

“If you are willing to be taught, come to the Gabus House to learn to read and write, which is done three times a week,” he said.

Head of the Kemtuk sub-district, Evans Yoku, commended the Jayapura Police Department’s initiative.

Yoku deemed Rumah Gabus ideal to assist his administration in offering basic education services.

“Representing the Jayapura district government and the head of Jayapura district, we appreciate the Jayapura Police Department, who have helped support this government. It is an honor for Kemtuk district people,” he remarked.

The house was inaugurated on April 28, 2022, in Kemtuk sub-district, Jayapura district, by Maclarimboen.
