In September 2016, China inaugurated a railway line running through Uzbekistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan and intends to embark further on connecting Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan onwards to China. Tajikistan does have a small rail network, terminating in Dushanbe, with links to Uzbekistan and ultimately to Moscow. There has also been talk of a Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan (TAT) railway that would link west to Iran and the International North-South Transportation Corridor. Tajikistan, with its population of 9.5 million, has been enjoying strong economic growth for nearly 30 years since its independence in 1991, mainly based on the export of aluminium and a significant cotton industry. But sustaining growth in the future will need substantially higher growth in private investment and export diversification.

TES Hosts the Father of the European Green Deal, Executive Frans Timmermans, at the Port of Rotterdam

Executives from TES and the Port of Rotterdam Authority recently welcomed Frans Timmermans and esteemed European Commissioners to the Port to discuss TES’s sustainable battery treatment strategy.

SINGAPORE, May 20, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Battery development and production are critical for Europe in the context of clean energy and automotive transition. There is a huge rise in the global demand for lithium-ion batteries and a report from the European Commission found that the EU could account for 17% of this global demand by 2030, the second-highest share worldwide.

To tackle this challenge, the EU has published a proposal for a new Sustainable Batteries Regulation, as part of its wider strategy for a climate-neutral, resource-efficient EU economy.

As the executive vice president for the Green Deal; Frans Timmermans is responsible for a comprehensive set of policy initiatives, designed to allow the European Union to become the first carbon-neutral continent on the planet by 2050.

TES is committed to improving the collection and recycling of portable and industrial batteries in Europe, and the new Port of Rotterdam facility helps support the European Union’s goals laid out in the European Green Deal. To extend on existing facilities in Grenoble (France) and Singapore, TES plans to have its site operational on the strategically located Port of Rotterdam, by the end of 2022.

The existing 10,000 square metre (approx. 110,000 sq. feet) facility, has the option to extend to over 40,000 square metres (approx. 430,000 sq. ft). The facility will be the first lithium battery recycling plant in the Netherlands and will have 10,000 tonnes of shredding capacity each year, using the award-winning hydrometallurgical process that focuses on the recovery of nickel, cobalt, and lithium as a precursor feedstock for the battery industry.

Schneider Electric calls for a rethink of investment priorities to break the supply vs. demand deadlock and accelerate climate action at the WEF in Davos

Scenarios by Schneider’s Sustainability Research Institute shows that stimulating a demand-led transition is the only scenario in which emissions will fall fast enough to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees. The Research Institute will be launching the Towards Net Zero Buildings: a practical pathway e-book at Davos, looking at how the current deadlock of supply vs. demand can be broken. Key findings include:

  • Just 1-1.5% of building stock in Europe is renovated each year. Renovation levels need to reach 3% a year to meet Paris commitments
  • Financing remains biggest obstacle to investment in sustainable buildings1 but investing in decarbonization technologies, digital and city ecosystem services maximize value creation for all stakeholders
  • Energy efficiency technology provides significant opportunities to reduce energy consumption ranging from 10 to 60%, depending on geographies and quality of existing assets
  • Digital energy efficiency solutions bring 20-30 percent carbon abatement across the building stock, bringing highly competitive paybacks and cost savings for consumers, well below 8 years in average

The Electric MOKE has been in design and development for over 3 years. It is being manufactured in the United Kingdom to the highest quality standards and is currently completing homologation testing requirements in Spain.

The first ‘Wave Blue’ Electric MOKE came off the production line today and will also be available in 4 additional launch colours, chosen to reflect its spiritual home next to clear waters and golden beaches. With the range expected to be officially verified as 120km, from a European-made lithium battery, the Electric MOKE is predominantly made from European parts, enabling tariff free export into the EU. The first production car is being shipped for demonstration purposes at Casa MOKE, MOKE France SAS’ flagship store in St Tropez, a legendary town on the French Riviera with a long historic association with the brand.
