Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G Plate noted that Internet connectivity in Indonesia is much better, as shown by increase in Indonesia’s position in the 2022 e-Government survey.
“Our Internet is now much better than past years, one of the parameter is in terms of the e-Government index,” he said on the sidelines of the opening of the Digital Transformation Expo technology exhibition at the Nusa Dua Convention Center, here on Sunday.
He mentioned that Indonesia’s e-government index had increased by 11 levels in the last two years.
Based on the 2022 e-Government Survey, the UN places Indonesia at 77th place for performance in the development and implementation of an Electronic-Based Government System (SPBE).
Thus Indonesia’s position move up by 11 ranks from its 2020 position at 88th rank.

The minister opined that the increase in Indonesia’s rating was inseparable from the distribution of digital or telecommunications infrastructure which ever expanded all across the country.
This was in accordance with President Joko Widodo’s commitment to develop telecommunications infrastructure in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost areas, he stated.
“And this is not an easy (thing). Of course, collaboration, cooperation from (everyone) is required, both from the government and the public, and the ecosystem must work together,” he noted.
Plate had said that G20 members –Indonesia included– were committed to building upstream level information and communication technology infrastructure throughout the region.
“The Indonesian government and G20 members will continue to develop, or at least prepare policies to pursue upstream ICT infrastructure throughout their respective countries, including Indonesia,” he stated in Jakarta on October 7.
Among infrastructure development which had been done by Indonesia were installation of main fiber optic network, construction of base transceiver station (BTS) towers, and satellite capacity provision.
Indonesia also plans to launch two high-throughput satellites next year, setting them to orbit.
“We keep on building BTS in all regions so that at the same time internet usage in Indonesia grows,” he concluded.
