16th working day of 15th NA’s fifth session

The National Assembly (NA) on June 9 continued the 16th working day of its fifth sitting under the chair of NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

In the morning, authorised by the Prime Minister, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh presented reports on the draft revised Land Law and public opinions on the bill. Chairman of the NA’s Economic Committee Vu Hong Thanh delivered a report verifying the draft revised Land Law. Then the legislature discussed in groups the draft law.

In the afternoon, under the direction of NA Vice Chairman Nguyen Khac Dinh, the NA discussed a draft amended resolution on conducting votes of confidence for those holding positions elected or approved by the NA or the People’s Councils.

Most of the speakers at the discussion agreed on the necessity of promulgating the resolution; dossiers, order, procedures and basic contents in the draft resolution.

The legislative body also discussed in groups the draft Law on Management and Protection of Defence Works and Military Areas.

The NA is scheduled to discuss in groups the draft Law on Citizenship Identity (amended) and the draft Law on Telecommunications (amended) on June 10 morning.

In the afternoon, the NA will table the draft Law on Credit Institutions (amended). The session will be broadcast live on the NA television channel./.

First Dien Hong Awards honours 67 works

Sixty-seven outstanding works wining the first Dien Hong Awards – the national press award on the National Assembly (NA) and People’s Councils – have been honoured at a ceremony held in Hanoi on June 9.

They included five Prize A, 13 Prize B, 16 Prize C, and 31 consolation prizes.

Addressing the event, NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue expressed his delight to see the submission of 3,328 works to the first edition by 171 press agencies in Vietnam and abroad and seven loffices of the NA delegation and people’s councils.

Former Ambassador to Japan forced to quit job on bribery charges

The Prime Minister has decided to force former Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Vu Hong Nam out of his job for serious violations and wrongdoings in work, as a disciplinary measure.

The disciplinary measure is effective from December 30, 2022, when the Party Central Committee announced a decision on the enforcement of disciplinary actions against Party members who violate regulations.

On December 22, 2022, the Ministry of Public Security’s Investigation Agency launched criminal proceedings against and detained Nam, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and former Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan, for charges of accepting bribes.

Nam is one of the suspects in the case of “Offering, brokering, accepting bribes, abusing power and authority while performing official duties, committing fraud to misappropriate assets” that occurred within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hanoi and other cities and provinces.

On December 27, 2022, Nam was expelled from the Party under a decision of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat for degradation in political thought, morality, and lifestyle; accepting bribes; violating the principles of democratic centralism, Party regulations and State laws; and violating the regulations on things that Party members are not allowed to do and the responsibility for setting an example.

His violations have resulted in extremely serious consequences, causing public outrage and negatively affecting the reputation of the Party organisation and diplomatic sector.

Nam, 60, was born in Nam Dinh and had many years working in the foreign affairs sector. From 1988 to 2022, he held various positions and gained extensive experience in diplomatic work.

In 2014, Nam was appointed as Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and concurrently served as the Chairman of the State Commission for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs. In August 2018, he was appointed Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan./.

Party official receives Indian party delegation

Politburo member and permanent member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee’s Secretariat Truong Thi Mai hosted a reception in Hanoi on June 9 for a high-level delegation of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) led by its General Secretary Sitaram Yechury.

Mai expressed her pleasure with the sound development of special friendship and solidarity between the two Parties, States and peoples of the two countries. She informed the guest about a number of key tasks that the CPV is implementing, including mass mobilisation work and the relationship between the Party and the people.

She said that under the leadership of the CPV, Vietnam has changed from a country with a poverty rate of 58% to a middle-income country in the world. She went on to say that the CPV is reviewing 40 years of implementation of the Doi Moi (renewal) process, including analysing specific domestic and international situations to improve the effectiveness of policy making in the coming period.

For his part, CPI-M General Secretary Yechury informed the host of the fruitful results of meetings with representatives of leaders of central agencies of the CPV, affirming that the exchanged contents are of reference value for the CPI-M to carry out its resolutions and tasks in the coming time.

On this occasion, Yechury briefed Mai about the situation in India, priorities of CPI-M as well as the task of rallying the working people, strengthening cooperation with left-wing, democratic forces to protect the rights and interests of workers as well as expanding CPI-M’s influence and position in the political arena.

Previously, the CPI-M delegation had talks with Le Hoai Trung, a member of the Party Central Committee and Head of the Party Central Committee for External Relations, during which the two sides discussed specific measures to strengthen relations between the two parties and countries.

The delegation also had working sessions with Pham Tat Thang, a member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission of Mass Mobilisation, and leaders of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee. K+ signs exclusive agreement for broadcasting rights with AFC

Leading broadcaster of sports content in Vietnam, K+, has signed an unprecedented agreement to acquire on an exclusive basis all competitions organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the 2025-26 to 2028-29 seasons in Vietnam, starting with the FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers’ final round in September 2024.

This agreement includes more than 25 competitions including the AFC Asian Cup 2027, the AFC Women’s Asian Cup and the AFC Champions League and the AFC Cup. Furthermore, men’s senior national team and the AFC Asian Cup 2027 final will also be covered on broad reach linear free-to-air television in the country.
