BI projects inflation to reach 0.48 percent in December 2022

Jakarta Bank Indonesia (BI) has projected inflation in December 2022 to reach 0.48 percent as compared to the previous month (month-to-month/mtm).

Executive Director of the Communication Department of BI Erwin Haryono, in an official statement here on Friday, stated that the projection was based on the Price Monitoring Survey in the fourth week of December 2022.

The main commodities contributing to inflation in December 2022 until the fourth week are eggs, 0.08 percent mtm; rice and gold jewelry, 0.04 percent mtm each; and chicken meat, tomatoes, and bird’s eye chilies, 0.03 percent mtm each.

In addition, cooking oil, filtered clove cigarettes, and tap water tariffs each contributed 0.02 percent mtm to inflation, followed by water spinach, spinach, gasoline, and air transportation each having contributed 0.01 percent mtm.

Meanwhile, several commodities were recorded to contribute to deflation during this period, such as red chilies and shallots, each contributing 0.01 percent mtm.

He affirmed that BI continues to strengthen coordination with the government and relevant authorities in optimizing the policy mix strategy to maintain macroeconomic and financial system stability to further support economic recovery.

In the BI Annual Budget Plan (RATBI), the Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation in 2023 is targeted to decline to 3.61 percent as compared to the same period in the previous year (year-on-year/yoy).

Apart from controlling inflation, next year, BI will also continue to control the rupiah exchange rate to make it more stable, even stronger to Rp15,070 per US dollar.

Earlier, Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian highlighted the need for regional governments to intensify efforts to control inflation amid global uncertainty and ahead of the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations.

“Seeing the global situation and Christmas and New Year globally, including Indonesia, monitoring and efforts to control inflation need to be intensified. Nationally, it (inflation control) is coordinated by the central government. However, in regions, (regional governments) must control it (inflation) in their respective regions,” he remarked.

Thus, this fund is from all residents of East Kalimantan

Bandung, West Java East Kalimantan Governor Isran Noor has disbursed funding worth Rp6 billion as assistance for residents affected by the earthquake that struck Cianjur District, West Java, in November.

The aid was compiled from the fund of the East Kalimantan Provincial Government, East Kalimantan People’s Representatives Council (DPRD), district and city governments of East Kalimantan, the DPRD of districts and cities in East Kalimantan, and East Kalimantan residents.

“Thus, this fund is from all residents of East Kalimantan,” Noor stated at the West Java Governor’s official residence here on Saturday.

The East Kalimantan governor expressed hope that the fund would ease the burden of Cianjur residents affected by the earthquake.

Meanwhile, West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil said the losses experienced by Cianjur residents totaled over Rp1 trillion, while adding that majority of the damage was caused to people’s houses that had to be rebuilt.

Kamil noted that the emergency response period for the Cianjur earthquake was almost over. Thus, the handling will be focused on the rehabilitation of damages that required a large fund.

He further said that the aid from East Kalimantan will be focused on spending on mosques, village halls, irrigation, and bridges.

The West Java governor also noted that the aid from East Kalimantan is the largest as compared to the assistance from other regions.

Ministry inspects tour bus feasibility in Puncak Bogor

We are conducting a ramp check operation to ensure the operational feasibility of the tourism bus

Jakarta The Transportation Ministry and some personnel conducted a ramp check or safety inspection of tourism buses at Rest Area 45 A Ciawi, Bogor, on Saturday.

The director of road traffic at the directorate general of land transportation at the Transportation Ministry, Cucu Mulyana, said that tourist buses, which are mostly used for sightseeing, were prioritized for the ramp check.

“We are conducting a ramp check operation to ensure the operational feasibility of the tourism bus. The goal is to ensure that people use roadworthy buses,” he added.

He said that the operation was done in collaboration with local stakeholders, such as the Bogor Police, military unit, and the Transportation Office.

Based on the inspection, one bus set to Puncak was found to have incomplete administration, dysfunctional parking brake, bald tires, and leakage, making it unfit for use.

“So, we move the passengers to a replacement bus that has arrived,” he said. He appealed to people who are going on vacation to use roadworthy tourism buses.

“People are encouraged to rent a decent vehicle. Proof of kir book and permission that can be (held accountable). Apart from that, operators are urged to be able to maintain their vehicles and ensure that before leaving, the bus is roadworthy,” he said.

Chief of Bogor Police, Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, said that the inspection was carried out from December 22, 2022, to January 2, 2023.

“We conduct checks for vehicles heading to Puncak related on the vehicle’s eligibility and the driver’s health because the terrain to Puncak requires the health of the driver and the vehicle’s eligibility. We do this to ensure the safety of passengers and road users,” he explained. Imanuddin added that during the inspection, there were indeed buses which were found not fit for travel.

So, passengers had to be moved partly or completely to other buses that were suitable.

“For those that don’t meet (the criteria), we have returned them to their post for repairs and fulfillment of technical and administrative provisions,” he said.

Train ticket purchases down to 36,100 on Saturday: KAI Jakarta

Today, as of noon there are 36,100 passengers. This data is very dynamic, because until evening, there are still ticket sales and the possibility of passengers addition

Jakarta At least 36,100 train tickets were purchased on Saturday compared to 39,000 the previous day, head of public relations of PT KAI area of operation 1, Jakarta, Eva Chairunisa informed.

“Today, as of noon there are 36,100 passengers. This data is very dynamic, because until evening, there are still ticket sales and the possibility of passengers addition,” she said here. On Saturday, 37 trains were operated from Gambir Station, with the number of passenger departures pegged at 13,900, and passenger arrivals at 3,493.

Meanwhile, 32 trains were operated from Pasar Senen Station, with 22,200 departures and 1,963 arrivals recorded.

Chairunisa predicted that there would be 500–1,000 additional passengers on Saturday, given the possibility of further ticket bookings.

On Friday (December 23), 38 thousand ticket purchases were recorded as of noon, but until the last train departure at night, it reached 39 thousand.

“For tomorrow, 31,000 tickets have already been ordered. We will see if there is a possibility of another increase. For the New Year 2023, if we look at the current ticket orders, it is likely that there will be another increase on D-2 or D-1 before the turn of the year,” she said.

Compared to last year’s figure, the number of passengers has doubled, she pointed out.

“Last year, a total of 18 days (December 22, 2022–January 8, 2021), there were around 190 thousand passengers, while this year, as of December 24, as many as 305 thousand tickets have been purchased. This means that, until today alone, (the number of purchased) tickets have exceeded last year’s. We predict that until year-end holidays end, there will be an increase by 2–3 times (compared to last year),” she added.

Christmas momentum to care for harmony: Minister

Appeals from all elements to keep the area safe and conducive from terrorist threats

Jakarta Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas invites all Christians to make the 2022 Christmas commemoration a momentum to maintain harmony in diversity.

“I invite all Christians to make this year’s Christmas commemoration a momentum to care for harmony in diversity,” the minister stated in a video message received here, Saturday.

Qoumas said the theme for Christmas 2022, “Their Return to Their Country by Another Way,” means that diversity is a gift from God that one must be grateful for, must be cared for, and be developed continually.

According to the minister, diversity should encourage everyone to join hands in realizing a more dignified coexistence.

“By walking together, we will be able to recover faster, rise stronger. By walking together in respect for diversity, harmony will be created for a great Indonesia,” he remarked.

The Indonesian National Police ensured that the 2022 Christmas and 2023 New Year celebrations would run safely and smoothly.

In addition to synergizing with the TNI, the Polri involves local governments along with community organizations (Ormas) and youth organizations in the regions.

“Appeals from all elements to keep the area safe and conducive from terrorist threats. The appeal continues to be made,” National Police Chief Gen. Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated.

In line with Prabowo’s statement, Military (TNI) Commander Admiral Yudo Margono said the TNI would support the national police in anticipating acts of terror.

“The TNI has anti-terror troops, we will prepare them, and together we will synergize with the Police. If it is possible that (terror attacks) occur, (then the TNI) is ready to be assisted and ready to carry it out,” he stated.

Some 100 thousand police personnel will be involved in securing the Christmas and New Year celebrations at the end of this year, a police official earlier remarked.

The personnel will be drawn from the police headquarters and related institutions, head of the audit and inspection sub-directorate of the Safety and Security Directorate of the Police’s National Traffic Department, Chief Commissioner Aries Syahbudin, stated.

The security operation will not only prioritize aspects of security, safety, and smoothness but also health, he noted during an event titled “Christmas and New Year Infrastructure Readiness and Health Protocol,” which was streamed on YouTube on Monday.

Akin to the 2022 Eid Exodus, the police will also prepare posts for the administration of booster vaccines to those who have not received them.

“This is one of (the forms of) our support in addition to traffic smoothness and public activity security,” he stated.

According to Syahbudin, people’s enthusiasm for going on vacation is very high. Moreover, the COVID-19 positive case trend has started to decline.

Nonetheless, people must remain wary of the declining case trend.

To secure this year’s celebrations, security and service posts will be set up at several points where people are expected to gather, whether on the road or at tourism locations, he stated.

“There will be several service posts in collaboration with the Police’s Dokkes (Doctor and Health) as well as the regional governments’ health office,” he stated.

“The Christmas and New Year operation is a humanitarian operation, which is intended to serve the people while carrying out their activities, specifically in welcoming the Christmas and New Year holidays,” he remarked.
