Abel Noser Finishes Year with an Impressive List of Achievements

Highlights Include New Product Launches, Numerous Industry Partnerships, and a Ramping Up of Trade Surveillance Services

New York, NY, Dec. 29, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Abel Noser Holdings, the market leader in institutional trade analytics and agency-only trading solutions, has many notable achievements to look back on this year as 2022 comes to a close.

For instance, the company’s analytics arm, Abel Noser Solutions, began offering a first-of-its-kind global options TCA product that covers all options strategies from covered calls to complex spread strategies.  The offering enables clients to quantify the transaction costs of options hedging, income and more speculative strategies while evaluating broker performance metrics and execution quality.  There were also many enhancements to the firm’s fixed income TCA product suite.

Subsidiary Zeno AN Solutions launched an ESG-agnostic consensus ratings product for asset owners that provides portfolio-level analysis to help assess, measure and monitor the degree to which manager practices are consistent with client ESG policies. On the broker-dealer side, Abel Noser LLC’s revolutionary START platform, a customizable execution algorithmic solution integrated with industry-leading analytics, was rolled-out as a way for fund managers to proactively meet diversity and inclusion goals through a network of participating MWBE brokers while also mitigating best execution risk in an increasingly challenging trading environment.

Sell-side regulatory services had a busy year including partnering with Capital Market Solutions to offer clients comprehensive FINRA CAT and CAIS solutions before key 2022 deadlines. Additionally, the group developed a set of new regulatory tools to help brokers identify improper or illegal trading activity while also evidencing best execution.  Firm clients continue to call for cost-effective auditing and reporting tools, as well as regulatory services to mitigate their ongoing risk of potential fines or damage to their reputations.

2022 was also a busy year for Abel Noser channel partnerships including strategic liaisons with major industry players like JP Morgan’s Neovest.  Partnerships with more niche players included working with the Hackett Group for MWBE brokerage programs, and OWL ESG for consensus ESG data that powers the new fund holdings analysis product.

“As for the coming year, Abel Noser expects best execution requirements for brokers and managers to continue to be updated and quantified including calls for more fixed income transparency, pending updates to SEC Rule 605 and various FINRA directives,” remarked Peter Weiler, Co-CEO of Abel Noser Holdings. “We also expect a continued ramping up of electronic and algorithmic trading, plus greater emphasis on trading clarity and oversight from all sectors.”

“We’re proud of the many successes our top-notch team has accomplished this past year,” added Steve Glass, Co-CEO of Abel Noser Holdings. “We again look forward to applying the firm’s resources and leading position as the overall market matures and becomes more data-driven.”

COVID-19 case spike not caused by public mobility: minister

The latest spike in COVID-19 cases has not been caused by public mobility, but by the emergence of a new variant of the coronavirus, according to Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin.

The spike in cases has been caused by the new variant, which has been proven scientifically, he said.

“The evidence shows that during the Eid al-Fitr homecoming, football matches, and the G20 events there was no spike in cases,” he noted in Jakarta on Thursday.

The COVID-19 variants that have triggered an increase in cases are BQ.1 and XBB, he said. Indonesians have transmitted the virus variants and have been exposed to them.

Meanwhile, in China, the spike in COVID-19 cases has been caused by the BA.5, BA.275, and BF.7 variants.

“We have passed the BA.5 and BA.275 cycle. Right now, we are facing the BF.7 variant. However, the increase is very small with only 15 cases,” the minister informed.

Earlier, spokesperson for the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, Professor Wiku Adisasmito, said that in general, the number of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia has remained under control with the case rate below the threshold of five percent set by the World Health Organization (WHO).

However, Adisasmito reminded the public about the potential for imported cases from a number of countries that are experiencing a spike in cases, such as China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and Germany.

“The Ministry of Health is conducting genomic surveillance to observe variants and sub-variants circulating in Indonesia. If there is an introduction of a new variant from abroad, it will be detected earlier,” he remarked.

In addition, supervision is being conducted at airports and entry points through temperature and COVID-19 symptom checks of travelers, he added.

The government has asked citizens to remain disciplined in following the health protocols to prevent exposure to COVID-19, especially during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Cath lab necessary interventional measure in heart disease: Minister

The Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab) facility was necessary as an interventional measure for diagnosis and treatment to reduce cases of death due to heart disease, according to Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin.

At the Children’s and Mother Hospital Harapan Kita Jakarta, Sadikin said that heart disease had claimed the lives of several people in Indonesia.

Some 200 people are estimated to die annually due to heart disease, and most of the treatments were through Social Security (BPJS).

“The cost is more than Rp9 trillion. Hence, we need this intervention, as previously, it was only in 55 districts and cities,” he remarked.

To this end, his side plans to prepare a catheterization laboratory in 514 cities and districts, with priority on heart ring installation setup.

“Imagine (a scenario) like Cianjur (some time ago). If there is (someone suffering from) a heart attack, he must be taken to Bogor or Bandung, it is difficult. Along the way, I just realized that it turned out that the cath lab is not only for heart attacks,” he remarked.

Minister Sadikin inaugurated the catheterization laboratory at Jakarta’s Harapan Kita Hospital. He also reviewed the facilities to treat patients.

On the topic of heart disease, the minister also noted that in Indonesia, some 12,500 to 15 thousand babies were born with congenital heart disease, and if they were not treated right away, they could die.

Moreover, the available capacity to treat the condition reached only six thousand.

“Imagine, of 12,500 to 15 thousand, there are only six thousand, who could get operated. There are other nine thousand? It is either natural selection or death,” the minister pointed out.

He attributed this grim scenario to several factors, such as the lack of facilities and specialist doctors for handling this situation.

On the same occasion, Head of Harapan Kita Hospital Dr Ockti Palupi Rahayuningtyas, MPH, MH. Kes stated that the lab’s services would kick off in January 2023 and to this end, permit from the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (Bapeten) was awaited.

KPU, Polri ink MoU on securing 2024 General Elections

The General Elections Commission (KPU) and the National Police (Polri) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on ensuring safe and exceptional general elections in 2024.

“On Thursday, December 29, 2022, KPU signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Police in the context of cooperation for securing electoral activities,” KPU Chairperson Hasyim Asy’ari informed here on Thursday.

Under the MoU, the police will secure the printing process of ballot papers and their distribution to polling stations, Asy’ari said.

“The KPU welcomes this activity; in fact, this is not a new thing between the police and the KPU. We renew the MoU every time because there are new situations during the general and regional head elections,” he added.

Meanwhile, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said that the MoU is a manifestation of the synergy between the Polri and KPU in organizing the 2024 general elections.

“Of course, this synergy is not only at the central (government level) but runs throughout Indonesia. This series of activities that will be carried out by the KPU and KPUD (regional KPU), can really run well, especially in the 2024 simultaneous election implementation,” Prabowo said.

He also expressed the hope that the 2019 general elections would serve as a lesson for all. At that time, hundreds of election organizers experienced health problems and some even died of exhaustion, he noted.

“They died because of exhaustion. This becomes an evaluation for all. Looking at the increased number of participating political parties, the community requires more time to vote. Hence, these things must be anticipated,” he said.

Other problems that need to be anticipated include logistics delivery, identity politics, and other things that can set the country’s democracy back, the police chief added.

Prabowo appealed to all parties, including election participants or candidates, to work together to make the 2024 elections a success so that the elected figures can continue the positive achievements that have been made so far.

Forest, land fire areas declined by 43 percent in 2022

Indonesia witnessed a 43-percent decline in terms of areas affected by forest and land fires in 2022 as compared to the burned areas in 2021, according to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry’s (KLHK’s) data.

“Until November 2022, we have calculated that the forest and land fire area has declined by 43 percent as compared to that in 2021,” Climate Change Handling Director General at the Ministry Laksmi Dhewanti stated.

According to the ministry’s data, in 2022, the forest and land fire area declined by around 152,797 hectares, he noted during KLHK’s 2022 Year End Reflection event held virtually on Thursday.

This aligns with the forest and land fire decline trends that Indonesia experienced within the last few years.

According to the ministry’s SiPongi data in 2020, the affected land area reached 296,942 hectares. This figure rose to 358,867 hectares in 2021 and declined once again to 202,617 hectares this year.

This figure is far below the forest and land fire area in 2019 when fires ravaged 1,649,258 hectares of forest and land areas.

On the occasion, Minister of Environment and Forestry’s Senior Adviser Efransjah lauded the decline in forest and land fire area that significantly affects the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

“That is an incredible achievement. Everyone is silent because some time ago, half of the planet produced large amount of emissions from forest and land fires in developed countries,” he remarked.

To this end, he expressed gratitude over the actions taken at the grassroots level, including prevention undertaken by the Manggala Agni that is a forest and land fire handling brigade under the ministry.

He also highlighted that the role of people in forest and land fire prevention and handling efforts was one of the key factors that allowed Indonesia to reduce the extent of burned areas.

Coastal flooding likely in Jakarta from Jan 3-10: BMKG

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has advised people living near the coastline, such as on the north coast of Jakarta, to be careful of the potential for coastal flooding from January 3–10, 2023.

“The public is urged to be vigilant and alert to anticipate the impact of the high tide and pay attention to updates on maritime weather information from BMKG,” head of the agency, Dwikorita Karnawati, said here on Thursday.

The new moon on December 23, 2022, and the perigee on December 24, when the moon will approach its closest point to Earth in a month, could potentially increase the maximum tide level, she explained.

In addition to the north coast of Jakarta, there are 10 other regions in Indonesia that have the potential to experience coastal flooding: the Riau Islands (December 21–31, 2022), the Bangka Belitung coast (December 24–31), Banten (December 21, 2022–January 5, 2023), and the West Java coast (December 20–31).

Coastal flooding has also been forecast for the northern coast of Central Java from December 28, 2022–January 8, 2023; West Kalimantan from December 24–29, 2022; the coast of West Kotawaringin, Central Kalimantan, from December 24–29; North Sulawesi from December 20–29; North Maluku from December 25–29; and Papua from December 24–30.

BMKG said that this can disturb the community’s daily activities around ports and coasts, such as loading and unloading activities at ports, activities at coastal settlements, salt evaporation ponds, and inland fishery or aquaculture activities.

Karnawati urged the public to keep monitoring BMKG’s weather updates through the official BMKG website or by downloading the InfoBMKG application on mobile phones.

“People can see the weather forecast for the next six days, how is the rainfall, temperature, wind speed, and humidity, every three hours or six hours in every sub-district throughout Indonesia,” she added.

Indonesia’s Environmental Quality Index up in 2022: ministry

Indonesia’s Environmental Quality Index (IKLH) rose by 0.97 points in 2022 compared to the previous year, Director General of Environmental Pollution and Destruction Handling at the Environment and Forestry Ministry (KLHK), Sigit Reliantoro, has said.

This year, IKLH nationally reached 69.22 points, driven by various factors, he informed during the “KLHK 2022 Year-End Reflection” event, which was streamed virtually on Thursday.

The factors include an increase in the Air Quality Index (IKU) and Sea Water Quality Index (IKAL), which also met the national target.

The Water Quality Index (IKA) also increased though it did not meet the national target.

Meanwhile, the Land Quality Index (IKL) remained at the same level as the previous year and did not reach the national target.

At least 14 provinces and 225 districts or cities reached the IKA target for this year. Water quality improved in 192 districts or cities while it declined in 157 districts or cities, Reliantoro informed.

“In general, there should still be a large-scale effort to encourage the improvement of water quality,” he said.

“This is because only 41.2 percent of provinces and 43.8 percent of districts or cities are able to meet the Water Quality Index improvement target,” he added.

Meanwhile, 29 provinces managed to achieve this year’s IKU target along with 394 districts or cities.

At least 40 districts or cities managed to raise their IKU evaluation from good to very good, and 2 districts or cities raised their status from moderate to good.

Meanwhile, 14 districts or cities recorded a decline in IKU status from very good to good.

According to the ministry’s data, the IKL target for 2022 was reached by 16 provinces and 165 districts or cities, while all provinces met the IKAL target this year.

At the district or city level, there was a rise in IKL value in 145 districts or cities with green open space expanding by 148,689 hectares.

“However, this figure should be corrected because, in 116 districts or cities, there are 1.5 million hectares of peatland that still have canals, one of the indications of peatland ecosystem destruction,” Reliantoro pointed out.
