Govt to bear egg shipping costs to control prices: minister

The Indonesian government will help with the cost of shipping eggs from Java Island to control their price, which has increased of late, Minister of Trade, Zulkifli Hasan, has assured.

Based on data from the Ministry of Trade’s Market Monitoring System and Basic Needs (SP2KP), the national average price of purebred chicken eggs has been recorded at Rp31,500 per kilogram, an increase from the normal price range of around Rp27 thousand to Rp29 thousand.

“We and the Minister of Home Affairs and others have a meeting with the regional government, if (the price increase) is more than 5 percent, we will assist with transportation costs so that the price does not exceed Rp31 thousand to Rp32 thousand,” Hasan said at the Jakarta Presidential Palace on Monday.

Chicken eggs are one of the commodities that will need to be watched at the end of this year due to increased demand, he added.

According to the minister, the high demand for eggs has been triggered by many traders and the public making cakes ahead of Christmas.

Therefore, the government has committed to bearing the transportation costs for shipping eggs from Java. “Taking it from Java to Kalimantan (the government) will bear the transportation costs,” the Trade Minister said.

Based on a report from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), inflation in November 2022 reached 0.09 percent compared to the previous month (month-to-month/mtm).

The increase in the price of eggs for purebred chickens contributed 0.02 percent to inflation.

The price of purebred chicken eggs had the highest contribution to November 2022 inflation on a monthly basis due to increased demand. The price of purebred chicken eggs rose by 2.77 percent (mtm) and 17.11 percent (yoy) to an average of Rp27,476 per kilogram.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) earlier called on governors, district heads, and mayors to pay attention to inflation movements from hour to hour, as the consumer price index is the “scourge of all countries.”

“I ask you to pay attention from time to time, from hour to hour, the movement of the inflation rate in each region. This is very important,” he stressed.

The threat of rising inflation would be one of the challenges for the domestic and global economy next year, he said. Hence, regional heads have been urged to work hard to control the supply and stock of goods and services in their respective regions.

“This is the scourge of all countries. Inflation. Once again, pay attention to the movement of the inflation rate in each region,” he said.

In addition to regional heads, Widodo urged ministries and non-ministerial institutions (K/L) to accelerate the realization of spending, especially capital and social spending in the State Budget and the 2023 State Budget.

“I ask to speed up the realization of spending,” he said.

The head of state called upon all ministries and institutions as well as regional governments to be sensitive to crises and to always be alert against global uncertainties.

He stressed that central and regional government officials must understand that currently, the world is facing unfavorable conditions.

“Everyone must be really prepared for all the various possibilities that might occur, which we did not predict, which we did not calculate. (This is so that we are) not only able to survive but also able to take advantage of every opportunity that exists,“ he stated.

Govt targets including 2 mln small industry products in e-catalog

The Ministry of Industry is targeting to include as many as two million products made by small and medium industries (SMIs) into the government’s e-catalog in 2023.

The e-catalog is managed by the Government Goods and Services Procurement Policy Agency (LKPP).

“In essence, we are encouraging as many small and medium industries products as possible to enter the e-catalog. We are targeting 2 million products in 2023,” Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita informed here on Monday.

To reach the target, he has issued the Industry Minister Regulation Number 46 of 2022 concerning provisions and procedures for calculating the domestic component level (TKDN) values for small industries.

With the issuance of the regulation, small industries can self-assess the TKDN in their products to get a TKDN certificate, which is one of the requirements for including the products of small industries in the e-catalog.

“Everything is carried out online through the National Industry Information System (SIINas). It is mandated that after filling the SIINas, the TKDN certificate will be issued in five days at the latest,” he said.

The minister emphasized that all the processes for proposing TKDN certificates for small industries are free of charge.

He then appealed to all Industry Office heads to provide guidance to SMIs in their respective regions to help them make the most of the policy.

The effort is aimed at anticipating the global economic slowdown forecast for next year.

“The global market will be ‘sluggish’; the only way is to strengthen the domestic market. Do not let the domestic market be used by imported products,” he said.

Earlier, Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Minister Teten Masduki informed that at least 40,473 micro and small enterprises with 763,385 products have been included in the e-catalog of LKPP.

Meanwhile, the total number of products featured in the e-catalog has reached 2.3 million.

Masduki emphasized that his ministry has continued to make efforts to encourage micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) players to register their products in the e-catalog.

Ministry to use BPS survey to improve 2023 Hajj services

The Religious Affairs Ministry will use the results of a Statistics Indonesia (BPS) survey of pilgrims’ satisfaction with the 2022 Hajj services as the basis for improving the quality of services next year.

“The achievement is encouraging. However, it will become a tough task for the Religious Affairs Ministry and related stakeholders to be able to maintain it,” Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas remarked here on Monday.

The BPS reported that the satisfaction index of 2022 Hajj pilgrims on the pilgrimage services rose by 4.54 points to 90.45 from 85.91 in the previous Hajj implementation in 2019.

The minister said that his ministry will pay attention to assessments from pilgrims and BPS to improve Hajj services in 2023.

“Moreover, we expect that the quota for Indonesian pilgrims in 2023 will return to normal,” he added.

In 2019, the pilgrim quota provided to Indonesia was up to 221 thousand. But, in 2022, it was only allowed to dispatch 100,051 pilgrims since the government of Saudi Arabia was trying to minimize COVID-19 transmission.

Qoumas said that one of the improvements that will be made will be in the implementation of worship guidance for pilgrims.

The government is planning to begin preparations for the implementation of the services earlier so that pilgrims can get optimal worship guidance services, he informed.

“We will schedule the recruitment of worship guidance officers to be carried out earlier,” he said.

Head of BPS, Margo Yuwono, said that overall, the 2022 Hajj services were rated very satisfactory by pilgrims.

The aspects assessed in the pilgrims’ satisfaction index included the Hajj officers, worship, transportation, accommodation, meal, as well as health services.

The satisfaction index for the provision of transportation services in Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Mina (Armuzna) areas rose to 91.54 in 2022 from 80.37 in 2019.

Furthermore, the satisfaction index for catering services and the provision of accommodation tents in Armuzna areas jumped to 90.08 in 2022 from 84.48 in 2019 and to 87.91 in 2022 from 76.92 in 2019, respectively.

The index of satisfaction with Hajj services outside the Armuzna areas also experienced an increase.

The satisfaction index for intercity bus services, officer services, shalawat bus services (transport from the pilgrims’ hotels to the Great Mosque of Mecca), and worship services increased to 91.93 points, 90.32 points, 90.76 points, and 90.31 points, respectively.

In addition, the index of satisfaction for hotel services rose to 89.35 points, while the satisfaction index for public/other services increased to 89.73 points.

Indonesian women must become independent, resilient: minister

Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Bintang Puspayoga has urged Indonesian women to become independent, empowered, and resilient.

“For women throughout Indonesia, be an independent woman, be a strong woman. Keep working, innovating, and being creative,” she said at the “Women’s Inspiration Fest Awarding Night” in Jakarta on Monday, according to a statement received the same day.

This is important in the midst of inequality in access and participation that many women’s groups still face.

In addition, women, who make up nearly 50 percent of Indonesia’s population, are the support and foundation of the state from a social and economic perspective.

Minister Puspayoga highlighted the need for making more significant efforts to recognize women’s contributions.

According to her, Indonesian women have become more advanced in thinking, working, and making real contributions to their surroundings, so their potential must also receive support from all parties.

“When we talk about women’s contributions, this is actually extraordinary. Indonesian women are great and extraordinary women, there is no term that is impossible and cannot be done by women, as long as they are given the opportunity,” the minister said.

Meanwhile, House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani lauded the contribution of women at the ‘Women’s Inspiration Fest’ competition in which many women won photo and writing competitions in various categories.

“As women leaders, we must help and support Indonesian women to work together to build the nation and the state. Apart from that, as women leaders, we must work harder to prove that we (women) are capable,” Maharani said.

Equal participation of women and men is key for the welfare of a nation, deputy for gender equality at the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Lenny N. Rosalin, said earlier.

“Equal and full participation of women and men is the key to the welfare and success of a nation,” she observed during a national webinar on “Optimizing Women’s Potential in Entrepreneurship with a Gender Perspective,” which was followed from here last Tuesday.

Based on an analysis by the McKinsey Global Institute, Indonesia can increase its gross domestic product (GDP) by US$135 billion per year by 2025 if women’s economic participation is increased, Rosalin pointed out.

For this reason, efforts to empower women in the economic field need to be strengthened, she said.

Based on data from the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), in 2019, there were a total of 65.5 million business units in Indonesia. Of the number, 99.99 percent were micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

“More than half of those MSME players were women,” she highlighted.

Indonesian MSMEs contribute around 61 percent to the total GDP and absorb 97 percent of the workforce in the country. In addition, they account for 60 percent of the total investment in the country.

“If we do this (women’s economic empowerment) simultaneously and jointly, I think in 2025, we can increase our GDP,” Rosalin said.

It is believed that women who are economically empowered can become a part of the solution for issues affecting women and children, she added.

“If the economy is advanced, their children can be sent to higher education. They (children) can be provided with better nutrition so that stunting can be suppressed. Compulsory education can be increased up to 12 years, and finally, the quality of human resources can also improve,” she explained.
