PBESI begins preparations for 2023 SEA Games

Nusa Dua, Bali (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Esports Central Board (PBESI) is preparing to take part in the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia after emerging as the general champion of the 14th International Esports Federation (IESF) World Championships.

The Esports world championships were held in Nusa Dua, Badung district, Bali province, from December 1–11, 2022. Meanwhile, the 2023 SEA Games will take place from May 5–17, 2023.

Deputy chairperson for athletes and achievements at PBESI, Yohannes P. Siagian, informed here on Monday that the national selection process for the 2023 SEA Games began two months ago.

“There are several athletes who are being monitored and there also have been discussions with experts in each of the Esports branches regarding (the appointment of) the prospective coaches and players,” he said.

He noted that it is most likely that the real work on the selection process will start in March 2023, since most of the athletes are currently on an off-season and need to rest.

“Next year, the national team will be quite busy, since there will be the SEA Games in May, the Asian Games in September, and the (15th) IESF (World Championships) in December,” the PBESI deputy chairperson informed. Before deciding which system will be implemented to select the national players for the 2023 SEA Games, he said that PBESI will review the effectiveness of two national selection systems that have been implemented earlier.

To select players for the 2021 Vietnam SEA Games, which were held from May 12–23, 2022, PBESI had used the ‘all-star’ system, in which the national team consisted of the best players from different Esports clubs.

Meanwhile, for the 14th IESF World Championships, PBESI had invited entire teams from various Esports clubs to take part in the national selection process. Then, the selected team underwent national training.

Siagian, who is also the head coach of the national Esports team, expressed optimism that Indonesia will be able to bag five gold medals at the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games.

The games will feature nine Esports events, namely Attack Online 2 (AK2) solo and squad events; Wild Rift male and female events, Mobile Legends: Bang-Bangmale and female events, PUBG Mobile solo and squad events, as well as CrossFire.

However, each contingent, except that of the host country, will be allowed to only compete in five events.

“We have high opportunities (to win gold medals) in Mobile Legends male and female events, PUBG Mobile solo and squad events – meanwhile, the fifth event (which the Indonesian contingent will participate in) has not been decided,” the PBESI deputy chairperson added.

Check older adults’ health before second booster vaccination: govt

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Government spokesperson for COVID-19 handling, Reisa Broto Asmoro, has asked families to ensure that older adults are in good health before they get the fourth dose or second booster of the COVID-19 vaccine.

“Please ensure first that the health condition is fit to receive the second booster dose,” she said at a health broadcast that was followed online on Monday.

Since November 2022, the government has officially started providing the second booster dose to adults aged above 60 who received the first booster six months prior, Asmoro informed.

However, while it is making efforts to increase the coverage of the booster dose, the government is encountering several older adults with comorbidities. The most common diseases that affect older adults are heart disease, stroke, and diabetes mellitus. Asmoro appealed to families to get older adults with comorbidities checked first by specialist doctors or their personal physicians to ensure that they are ready to get the vaccine.

The spokesperson further said that, after a health check, older adults usually get a recommendation letter. Older adults with comorbidities whose examination results show that the comorbidities are under control and who have an E-ticket at PeduliLindungi can immediately register at the nearest health facility.

She also urged older adults who have not received the first booster to get the dose immediately.

“Let us encourage older adults to go to the nearest health facility and educate them on (the benefits of) vaccination,” she remarked.

As part of efforts to boost community immunity against COVID-19, the Indonesian government launched a nationwide vaccination program on January 13, 2021. The program is targeting as many as 234,666,020 citizens.

Need more barista training programs: ministry

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Director of courses and training at the Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry, Wartanto, has urged all course and training agencies to provide barista training given the growth of coffee shops of late.

“The coffee shops business opportunity is rising. Hence, it is necessary to push for more implementation of barista courses and trainings,” he said at a webinar entitled “Chatting at the Shop: Capturing the Latest Coffee Business Trends through the Entrepreneurial Skills Education Program,” according to a statement issued on Monday.

According to the ministry’s data, the number of people seeking barista training has registered an increase. In the three-year period from 2020 to 2022, the number of barista course students reached 455, 1,075, and 1,130, respectively.

“I hope that the training program will continue to be strengthened and adjust to the demands over time. Do not forget to keep innovating because the (coffee shop) trend is still growing,” the director said.

He gave some examples of innovative contemporary coffee products, which have continued to be developed as a trend, such as the mixing of coffee with avocado, milk, and so on. A barista instructor as well as the owner of Filbert Course and Training Agency (LKP), Rendro Wijoyo, said that the current coffee business trend has opened huge working opportunities for graduates of the barista skill entrepreneurial training program.

He noted that the opportunities are not only rising in big cities, but also in various rural areas, as currently, the business players are starting to explore the potential of native coffee products.

“It becomes a trend that opens up great opportunities. Moreover, so far, there have been many coffee shops without baristas. Hence, the demand for baristas is very high,” he added.

However, Wijoyo said that there are several things that LKP must consider in providing the barista skill entrepreneurial training program, namely the supporting facilities and infrastructure must comply with industry standards.

The LKP should also establish strong cooperation with the industry and business players, thus the graduates of the barista training program are truly competent and ready to work in the entrepreneurship sector, he added.

Use PeduliLindungi app to find booster vaccination centers: Govt

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Government spokesperson for COVID-19 handling Reisa Broto Asmoro has asked the community to use the government’s PeduliLindungi application to find fourth dose or second booster COVID-19 vaccination centers.

“In the PeduliLindungi application, there are locations of vaccination (centers),” she said in a health broadcast that was followed online on Monday.

The government has tried to help the community to find the nearest COVID-19 vaccination center through the PeduliLindungi application, she added. The application allows the public to check the locations where vaccinations are provided.

People can also see the names and phone numbers of the nearest health facilities, along with updates regarding what types of vaccines are available.

Apart from that, people can also register themselves online through the social media of the vaccination providers so that they do not have to wait in a queue to register.

The spokesperson highlighted that all parties must work together to increase the coverage of COVID-19 vaccinations, especially for the first booster dose, which as of December 11, 2022, has only reached 28.77 percent.

She said that the year-end holidays pose the risk of virus transmission as people’s mobility increases. To this end, she expressed the hope that all parties can comply with the health protocols, implement a healthy lifestyle, and keep the environment clean.

Asmoro reminded people that it takes two weeks for antibodies to be built. Thus, before the holidays, people must get the booster dose for optimal protection against virus transmission.

As part of efforts to boost community immunity against COVID-19, the Indonesian government rolled out a nationwide vaccination program on January 13, 2021, targeting as many as 234,666,020 citizens.

According to data provided by the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, as of December 12, 2022, as many as 203,833,159 Indonesians have received the first vaccine dose, 174,449,231 have been administered the second dose, 67,522,970 have taken the third dose or first booster, and 1,018,280 have received the fourth dose or second booster.
