Next Gen Tech Solutions Debuts at Hong Kong International Airport

Teksbotics, a Hong Kong-based autonomous driving solution provider, implements the world’s first Autonomous Patrol Car (APC) operating in the restricted area of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) replicating real-world patrolling.

HONG KONG, March 14, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) unveils the deployment of Autonomous Patrol Car (APC) from Teksbotics and its technology partner UISEE. APC is an all-weather and full-process unmanned vehicle. The first stage of APC was deployed for autonomous perimeter patrolling along the South Runway Road of HKIA.

Currently, four unmanned APCs have already started operation from September 2021 and are patrolling the South and North Runway. During the patrol, APCs can automatically detect if someone has entered the warning zone by using video analytics.

APC is equipped with 8 high-definition cameras, which can monitor people intruding and abnormal conditions of the barbed wire along the boundary. If there is any abnormality, APC will immediately alert the on-duty airport staff. The vehicle is also equipped with 3 lidars and 2 sets of differential global positioning systems (dGPS) to monitor people and objects around it to avoid collisions and ensure safe operations. APC could withstand the wind speed of 180 kilometres per hour, and it has also been successfully tested to work normally during the typhoon hitting Hong Kong earlier in October 2021.

“Our engineers have been working closely with Airport Authority Hong Kong and other business partners in the work of implementation of the vehicle with our autonomous driving system. We are very proud of having successfully launched one of the world’s first unmanned patrol vehicles at HKIA,” says Teksbotics CEO Berry Leung.

AET has been now operating for over 790 days covering more than 100,000km of fully autonomous driving. AET was introduced to replace routine driving with the human driver which offers robust and safer logistic moving and minimize human errors. In future, AET will be also deployed for cargo transportation.

“We are confident that our industry-leading autonomous driving technology in logistics and patrol vehicles showcased in this project will lead into a revolutionary paradigm shift in the airport operation. We will strive to create constructive synergy by sharing our know-how and experiences of developing autonomous driving technology between a commercial vehicle and passenger vehicle sectors to expedite autonomous driving technology,” says Dennis Cheung, Teksbotics Associated Director.

The autonomous unmanned vehicle also has the benefit of reducing air resistance to improve fuel efficiency and lower emissions, making them an eco-friendly technology.

Jakarta governor bears message of social justice to Nusantara

Governor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan said that he brought water and soil from Akuarium kampong in North Jakarta to the country’s next capital, Nusantara, East Kalimantan, on Monday, to convey a message of social justice.

He and other governors were invited to a ceremony to mix soil and water from the country’s 34 provinces at the location of the new capital in the presence of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

“We from Jakarta bring water and soil specifically taken yesterday by the women from the Akuarium kampong in North Jakarta to echo a hope that the new city, which will be built, later will become a capital city that prioritizes benefits for the common people,” Baswedan remarked in a statement issued on the YouTube channel of the Indonesian Presidential Secretariat on Monday.

The community at Akuarium is a group that had been marginalized. However, currently, they are at the forefront and have all the necessary facilities. Hence, the water and soil from Akuarium kampong carry a message of social justice for all Indonesian people, according to the Jakarta Governor.

Through the message, Jakarta hopes the next capital city will always uphold social justice, in line with the first and main mandate of the establishment of the Republic of Indonesia, which is social justice for every Indonesian, he added.

For Jakarta, the relocation of the nation’s capital is an opportunity to further accelerate development and become on par with other global cities.

Baswedan also emphasized that Jakarta is the largest megapolitan city in the southern hemisphere, and the shifting of the capital must be taken as an opportunity to accelerate the development of the main elements of a global city, namely population mobility based on public transportation that is environmentally friendly.

“Second, (there must be) health facilities and educational facilities of international standard that have an attraction for global talent so that the benefits of the productivity in this city can be felt both in Indonesia and at the global level,” he said.

He welcomed the momentum of moving the capital city as an opportunity for Jakarta to become one of the world’s global city hubs.

“A global city is not only in terms of the economic aspect, but also cultural, social, and educational aspects. All of these must be developed,” he said.

Other governors also brought with them soil and water from places considered sacred in their respective provinces for the ceremony.

15 Rafflesia arnoldii bloom in West Sumatra in 2022

At least 15 Rafflesia arnoldii flowers bloomed in the forested area of Batang Palupuh Nature Reserve, Agam District, West Sumatra, in the period from January to March 14 this year.

The Rafflesia arnoldii, also known as corpse flowers, have bloomed in the last three months, and there were seven flowers blooming simultaneously 15 days ago, Batang Palupuh tour guide Joni Hartono said in Lubukbasung on Monday.

“Currently, there is one Rafflesia flower in perfect blossom,” he added.

In Batang Palupuh, he said, there are still many Rafflesia flowers that are still expected to bloom in the next few months.

Batang Palupuh is a destination for foreign tourists to closely examine corpse flowers, as they are protected by Law No. 5 of 1990 on Conservation of Natural Resources and Ecosystems.

However, since the COVID-19 pandemic, visits by foreign tourists have decreased and visitors have been limited to foreign tourists domiciled in Indonesia.

“Currently, the most visits come from domestic and foreign tourists who have resided in Indonesia, but the number is not much,” Hartono informed.

Meanwhile, the head of Maninjau Natural Resources Conservation, Ade Putra, said that his team will try to re-record data on the flowers in Batang Palupuh Nature Reserve area.

In the initial stage, his team will collect data on the population of Rafflesia arnoldii flowers over an area of 3.4 hectares.

“We will record how many populations and distributions to monitor (the flowers’) developments, growth, and the time when they bloom,” Putra informed.

In Agam alone, there are 14 distribution points of Rafflesia flowers that are spread across Palupuh, Tanjung Raya, Matur, Palembayan, Baso, Malalak, Kamang Magek, and Tilatang Kamang.

Overall, in West Sumatra, there are 36 locations where the flowers are spread, spanning 14 districts/cities: Agam, Limapuluh Kota, Solok, Pesisir Selatan, Solok Selatan, Pasaman, West Pasaman, Padang city, Padang Panjang, among others.

Indonesia working on resolving regional water issues through AIWW

The Indonesian Government is participating in resolving issues related to water through the 2nd Asia International Water Week (AIWW), Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, said in an official statement released on Monday.

The 2nd AIWW is being held from March 14 to March 16, 2022, in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara.

The AIWW is a platform for water-related stakeholders and experts, who are members and candidate members of the Water Council (AWC), to gather and share their insights and experiences in order to develop actionable plans that can contribute to sustainable development in Asia.

“I hope to become a part of the important discussion that will be held within the next two days,” Hartarto remarked.

“I am optimistic that the 2nd Asia International Water Week can produce high-quality policy recommendations and action plans that can be implemented with clear timelines that will contribute toward sustainable development in Asia,” he added.

The Asia Water Ministers’ Meeting is also being held to provide all countries with the opportunity to strengthen cooperation in implementing strategic policies related to water.

These policies are necessary for improving public health and education, reducing inequality, encouraging economic growth, and handling climate change.

The minister said he expects the event to be a positive platform for developing stronger cooperation between AWC member countries for resolving problems related to water.

In addition, by sharing the water problems that they prioritize, members can develop real action plans to realize the commitment of the Asia Water Ministries’ Meeting in the future.

According to the Asia and the Pacific SDG Progress Report published by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Asia has the most globally significant concentration of water-related disaster risks.

These include water scarcity, flood, drought, water pollution, glacier melting, and inadequate access to clean water services and safe sanitation.

In addition, urbanization, fast-growing population, intensive industrial activities, and climate change are posing an additional threat to water resiliency in Indonesia as well as Asia.

Indonesia has complex water problems due to an abundance of water resources that are handled by multi-level management.

Isbat session to determine start of Ramadan on April 1

The Religious Affairs Ministry will hold a hybrid Isbat (confirmation) session to determine the start date of Ramadan 1443 H on Friday (Apr 1), according to a ministry’s official.

“Due to the pandemic, we will organise the session through combined online and offline methods that would adhere to health protocols,” the ministry’s Director General of Islamic Community Guidance, Kamaruddin Amin, noted in his written statement received in Jakarta on Monday.

The Isbat session will take place at the ministry’s office, and participants of the offline session will be restricted according to the prevailing COVID-19 health protocols, he remarked, adding that other participants would partake through online teleconference.

“Despite health protocols being significantly less strict than last year, we must continue to adhere to the protocols. The meeting hall will be disinfected, and seats will be arranged in accordance with social distancing measures. The body temperature of offline participants will be checked (before entry), and masks are required to be worn during the meeting,” Amin noted.

Meanwhile, the ministry’s Director of Islamic Affairs and Sharia Guidance, Adib, remarked that the ministry’s Hijri Calendar Unification Team, ambassadors of foreign countries, and representatives of Islamic organisations will be invited to the Isbat session.

Representatives of the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) and the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) are also invited to attend the session, he noted.

“We also invite the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) leadership and House of Representatives (DPR RI) Commission VIII legislators to the session,” Adib added.

The director expounded that the Isbat session will be divided into three phases, with the first phase being the presentation of the astronomical observation report by the ministry’s Hijri Calendar Unification Team that will start at 5 p.m. local time (UTC +7).

“The presentation will be conducted during an open session and will be broadcast through live streaming,” Adib confirmed.

The final date of the first day of Ramadan 1443 H will be decided during the second phase of the Isbat session to be conducted behind closed doors after the Magrib prayer, he stated.

Apart from the astronomical observation report, reports of visual observation of the new moon conducted at 78 locations nationwide will be referred for the final decision, he added.

“The session will be ended during the third phase when the Isbat session results are announced in a teleconference broadcast by national television TVRI and ministry’s social media channels,” Adib remarked.

BI projects 14.96-percent growth in consumption of halal products

The consumption of Indonesia’s domestic halal products and services is estimated to grow by 14.96 percent, from US$184 billion in 2020 to $281.6 billion by 2025, according to Bank Indonesia (BI) Deputy Governor Juda Agung.

“The growth will be on the demand side, as Indonesia has the largest Muslim population and the largest domestic halal market in the world,” Agung stated at the Business Forum Indonesia Halal Markets event observed by online means in Jakarta on Monday.

With 13 percent of the market share, Indonesia currently holds the largest share of the domestic halal food market, the deputy governor remarked while adding that the current national market share will help Indonesia achieve the projected growth level in 2025.

Indonesia is among the top three major distribution centers for the halal industry along with the United Arab Emirates and Turkey, he noted.

Moreover, the deputy governor remarked that Indonesia had recorded a significant improvement in the international trade trend with member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in 2021.

In 2021, Indonesia’s export performance to OIC member states increased by 13.7 percent as compared to the export value recorded in 2020, he remarked.

“The international Islamic economy centre has also expanded for the last five years consecutively,” Agung remarked.

To improve and enhance the Islamic financial and economic ecosystem in Indonesia, the deputy governor spoke of continuing to conceive breakthroughs through the National Committee of Islamic Economy and Finance established under the direct command of President Joko Widodo.

The national committee was established to bolster the 2019-2024 national Islamic economy and financial plan that has several strategic development pillars, he added.

Indonesia’s economy to return to higher track in mid-term: BI

Indonesia’s economy will return to a higher track in the mid-term, Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Juda Agung stated during the Business Forum Indonesia Halal Markets online event on Monday.

This outlook is supported by recovery of the global economy and increasing domestic productivity due to structural reformation, including the acceleration of economic digitalization reformation in addition to the state’s finances, primary market, and strengthening of the small and medium business sector.

“Development of the sharia economy and halal finance, including the halal industry, also provided significant contribution to the economic performance as a whole,” Agung noted.

Indonesia’s economic growth is estimated to increase in 2022 and grow within the range of 4.7 percent to 5.5 percent, supported by stronger private consumption, solid export performance, and better investment.

This growth prospect is also supported by an increase in public mobility, faster unveiling of the vaccination program, reopening of economic centers, and policies being implemented, he explained.

Primary economic sectors, such as manufacturing, trade, construction, and the agriculture industry, will receive an economic momentum this year.

“We also expect that tourism will gain momentum with mobility normalization, especially with the MotoGP held in Mandalika, Lombok,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, the halal industry economic sector continues to show resiliency during the pandemic in addition to the sharia business that experienced positive growth within the scope of recovery, Agung noted.

This aligns with the increase in the national business activities.

According to the recent Global Islamic Economic Report, Indonesia’s placement in terms of the development of the sharia economy and finance ecosystem has risen significantly as compared to that in 2018, thereby demonstrating that the country has recorded significant acceleration and development of the sharia economy, specifically in the halal industry.
