Angkasa Pura I supports 2022 MotoGP event

Lombok Airport is ready to support the 2022 MotoGP event and welcome the arrival of participants, officials, and spectators, State Airport Operator PT Angkasa Pura I has informed.

This is indicated by the completion of infrastructures at Lombok Airport, including the expansion of passenger terminal and apron, the extension of runway, and the improvement of cargo facilities.

“Based on our experience in serving the recent 2021 WSBK participants, officials, spectators, and cargo, we are confident that this year’s MotoGP event can run smoothly,” President Director of PT Angkasa Pura I, Faik Fahmi, said in a written statement here on Sunday.

Currently, the Lombok Airport passenger terminal has been expanded to 43,501 sqm with a capacity of seven million passengers per year compared to 24,123 sqm previously with a capacity of 3.25 million passengers annually.

Meanwhile, Lombok Airport’s apron can now accommodate 16 aircraft comprising 10 small aircraft and six big aircraft.

Thereafter, the runway is ready to support the operation of wide-bodied aircraft such as Boeing 777. Moreover, the airport’s 3,300-m runway is the fifth-longest in Indonesia.

In addition, to ready air connectivity, Angkasa Pura I has also prepared risk mitigation to anticipate potential risks that may occur during the event, such as overcapacity and bad weather that cause aircraft to be unable to land.

The mitigation concept is the One Day Trip in Triangle Area: Lombok Airport – I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali – Juanda Airport in Surabaya.

The triangle area covers other mitigation efforts such as repositioning aircraft parking in case of overcapacity at Lombok Airport’s apron.

Alternate aerodrome will also be conducted in Lombok Airport in case of bad weather or things that have the potential to block the runway.

The airport authority will also coordinate with the airlines regarding the predicted increase in the number of aircraft, fleet management, aircraft rotation, and the readiness of ground handling operators serving the triangle routes.

Furthermore, Angkasa Pura I will promote local MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) in West Nusa Tenggara, collaborating with the province’s office of tourism and creative economy.

5G Mining technology to be launched in May 2022: Thohir

State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir will launch 5G Mining, a new technology in the mining sector which is developed jointly by PT Freeport and state-owned telecommunication company Telkom Group in May this year.

“Our 5G Mining will be launched in May this year, (making Indonesia) as the first country in Southeast Asia (to launch such a technology),” Erick Thohir said while delivering a keynote speech at the University of North Sumatra, Medan, on Sunday.

According to the Minister of SOEs, 5G Mining is necessary in the mining sector because it is difficult for humans to work in deep mining without the help of tools.

Hence, those working in deep mines are usually autonomous vehicles and robotics while people control those robots remotely to carry out the deep mining activities.

Previously, SOE Minister Erick Thohir said PT Freeport in collaboration with the Telkom Group would present 5G Mining technology.

Erick Thohir hoped that President Joko Widodo could be present at Freeport to inaugurate the 5G Mining technology launch, as it would be the first 5G Mining launch in Southeast Asia.

The 5G is to function to maintain operational safety, because deep mining is very challenging and it is important to protect the workers working inside the mines.

Besides, the 5G Mining will also improve integration connectivity because it applies a hyper connect network.

The technology will showcase sophistication of an autonomous car or autonomous truck.

The SOE Ministry will monitor while PT Freeport and Telkom are making preparations for the 5G Mining launch.

Growth must be strengthened by knowledge based economy: Minister

Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir said that economic growth should not merely rely on natural resources but also needs to be strengthened by knowledge-based economy.

“Knowledge based economy is crucial. We must have skilled workers who understand technology,” said Erick Thohir when delivering a keynote speech at the University of North Sumatra as monitored online here on Sunday.

The minister said that by 2035 Indonesia needs 17.5 million workers professionals and young entrepreneurs who understand and can adapt to technology.

“If digitalization is only related to the Internet and Wifi, in the future, then we must build a very important digitalization infrastructure, because this is the backbone of its strength. That infrastructure includes healthtech, fintech, edutech, and mediatech. All efforts are to achieve that target,” he said.

In the meantime, the pandemic, said Thohir, could still happen again. Hence, digitization in the health sector must also be ensured to run well so that the potential for growth continues.

Through cooperation and mutual help in implementing health protocols, Indonesia is successfully holding back a surge in COVID-19 cases.

“When COVID-19 cases spike, the economy goes down. When a new pandemic emerges, it will have an impact on life as a whole. That’s what we have to overcome,” said Minister Thohir.

He said that so far Indonesia still relies on natural resources that can run out and cannot be used again in the future.

“Our challenge is the knowledge based economy, where humans are the center of growth, human innovation is the center of growth. Hence, we cannot rely solely on the natural resource market,” he said.

The minister reminded the Indonesian people that if in 2045 the Indonesian generation is not productive, then Indonesia Gold will not be achieved.

The public’s involvement in selecting the commissioners of the General Elections Commission (KPU) and the General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) can strengthen the electoral institutions.

“The public’s involvement in the selection process is also useful to bolster electoral agencies. In the context of fit and proper test, the public ‘s engagement will help advise members of the House of Representatives (DPR RI),” Hurriyah explained.

According to her, the public’s involvement can assist the selection committee and the DPR in producing KPU and Bawaslu members who have a high level of managerial and electoral skills, as well as integrity in serving as the election organizers.

The three criteria are important for the new KPU and Bawaslu members, considering the possible increase in complexity in the 2024 general elections and regional heads elections, she elaborated.

“This complexity is not only a technical matter such as the voting preparation but related to the likelihood of collisions in the 2024 elections. People in the election organizing agencies need to have strong electoral skills and managerial abilities,” she added.

Therefore, she viewed that the public;s involvement in selecting the new KPU and Bawaslu members, from beginning to the final stage, becomes a key to solidifying the publicity of the recruiting process, she pointed out.

Hurriyah added, public involvement is one of the political problems that exist in Indonesia.
