Silom Road Closes for Water Festival with Pride Parade and Miss Amazing Queen Songkran Contest

Bangkok: Silom Road is set to close at 1:00 PM today as it prepares for a day filled with festivities and water play activities. Many vendors have reported that water, particularly cold water, is the most sought-after product among customers.

According to Thai News Agency, the current atmosphere on Silom Road remains normal with traffic still open. However, preparations are underway to close the road and accommodate the influx of people eager to participate in water-related activities starting at 1:00 PM. Anticipation is high as the preparations alone have sparked excitement among the public.

Today's events are highlighted by the Pride Parade, which celebrates marriage equality with participation from international partners and is scheduled to commence at 2:00 PM. Additionally, the Miss Amazing Queen Songkran 2025 contest and various performances will take place. The main stage is located in front of the Bangkok Bank headquarters, and both sides of the road are lined with vendors ready to sell their goods. These vendors, who typically sell fried egg rice, have adapted for the festival by offering water guns and equipment like protective glasses and waterproof bags for phones and valuables. Despite the switch, vendors noted that water guns are not their top-selling items. Instead, water for refilling the guns, especially cold water, is in high demand.

Prices for water range from 5 to 10 baht, depending on the size of the water gun. Although the weather is currently cloudy, it is not expected to deter those eager to partake in the water festivities.
