Indonesia and New Zealand Strengthen Halal Trade Cooperation at 2026 Show

Auckland:Indonesia and New Zealand explored opportunities to enhance halal trade cooperation at the “New Zealand Halal Show 2026” in Auckland. The event featured more than 50 participants and addressed cooperation in areas such as food, livestock, and pharmaceutical products. Efforts were also made to strengthen halal assurance systems and build the capacity of the Indonesian diaspora in New Zealand.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs Republic of Indonesia, the event was held on 31 October–1 November 2026 at Auckland Showgrounds and was organized by the Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand (FIANZ). The show aimed to expand partnerships between the two countries’ halal industries, featuring a range of activities including a halal product exhibition, food festival, conference, and educational seminars.

The Indonesian Ambassador to New Zealand, Samoa, the Kingdom of Tonga, the Cook Islands, and Niue, Fientje Maritje Suebu, expressed appreciation for FIANZ’s role in developing the halal industry and emphasized opportunities for enhanced cooperation in the halal economy. New Zealand, as a leading supplier of halal meat products, has strategic potential to expand access to Indonesia, a major halal consumer market. The event encouraged greater communication and coordination among FIANZ, Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), and other stakeholders.

Discussions on improving the implementation of halal product assurance in New Zealand included enhancing the role of the Indonesian diaspora in developing the halal ecosystem, through improved halal literacy, training, and competency certification. The establishment of Foreign Halal Institutions by diaspora members and cooperation with halal laboratories in New Zealand were key topics, as mandatory halal certification for foreign products is set to be implemented in 2028.

These initiatives aim to help local businesses meet Indonesia’s market requirements and create opportunities for Indonesian halal products to enter New Zealand and Pacific markets. Indonesia's diplomatic mission is committed to strengthening cooperation in halal certification and product assurance, promoting trade, investment, and industrial partnerships in the global halal value chain. The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Wellington will continue facilitating communication among BPJPH, FIANZ, the Indonesian diaspora, and businesses to advance economic cooperation.
