Kla Tham Party Asserts Right to Speak in No-Confidence Debate

Kla Tham Party representative Attakorn Sirilatthayakon has declared that his party will not be silenced in the upcoming no-confidence debate. He emphasized the legal right of the party to use its allocated time for the opposition. Attakorn warned that if this time is not respected, a confrontation may occur, highlighting the importance of allowing Members of Parliament to freely express their opinions, whether in praise or criticism of the government.

According to Thai News Agency, Attakorn, who serves as an MP for Chachoengsao and spokesperson for the Kla Tham Party, commented on the situation following a second unsuccessful meeting of the three-party coordinating committee of the House of Representatives. He noted that despite attempts to propose solutions, differing opinions persisted. Attakorn suggested that a resolution would require compromise from both sides.

He further explained that the Kla Tham Party, which constitutes 12-13% of parliament, intends to utilize its parliamentary platform to address issues facing the public and engage in debate in line with the opposition's motion. Attakorn mentioned that although a 4-5 day timeframe for the debate was proposed, he felt that the duration would depend on the readiness of the Cabinet and Parliament to proceed with the motions.

Regarding recent speculations about the Kla Tham Party potentially joining the government after a birthday celebration attended by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, Attakorn clarified that the event was merely an acquaintance's visit. He reiterated that the Kla Tham Party has never closed the door to joining the government and that any future decisions will be made collectively by the party.
