NA Standing Committee convenes 30th meeting


Hanoi: The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee convened its 30th meeting in Hanoi on February 22, with its agenda focusing on five major contents.

NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said the committee will discuss adjustments to the draft Law on Archives (revised), which is scheduled to be submitted to the NA’s 7th session in May.

Members of the committee will give ideas to a draft Law on amendments and supplements to some articles of the Law on Guard Force, aiming to legalise the 13th National Party Congress’ resolution and the Politburo’s Resolution No. 12-NQ/TW regarding the strengthening of building the People’s Security Force, specify the Constitution’s regulations and dealing with some problems in the field.

At the same time, they will consider a proposal of the Supreme People’s Procuracy on assigning an additional number of procurators to the People’s Procuracies.

They will discuss a report on the people’s aspirations in January 2024, including those in December 2023.

At the session, the committee a
lso deliberate a draft report summarising the 15 NA’s 5th extraordinary session and assessing the significance of the session, during which important laws such as the Land Law (revised) and Law on Credit Institutions (revised) were adopted.

According to NA Chairman Hue, on the threshold of the NA’s 7th session, the workload is high with the consideration of many bills and draft resolutions. Therefore, he requested relevant agencies to speed up preparations for two meetings of the NA Standing Committee in March./.

Four Vietnamese officers to depart for UN peacekeeping missions


Hanoi: The Ministry of National Defence held a ceremony in Hanoi on February 22 to present the President’s decision to send four military officers to the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping missions in the Central African Republic, South Sudan and Abyei area.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lieut. Gen Hoang Xuan Chien, who is also at the helm of the ministry’s Steering Committee on participation in the UN peacekeeping operations, asked the outgoing officers to uphold internal solidarity, fully grasp relevant situation and work closely with local forces, thus embodying the positive images of Uncle Ho’s soldiers.

To date, Vietnam has sent 792 officers and seasoned soldiers, both individually and as units, to UN peacekeeping missions. Among a total of 83 personnel who have completed their missions and returned home, 25 have been highly praised by the United Nations for their outstanding performance and awarded with certificates of merit.

This latest dispatch reinforces Vietnam’s c
ommitment to international cooperation and its dedication to promoting peace and stability in conflict-affected regions./.

NA Standing Committee wraps up 30th meeting


Hanoi: The National Assembly Standing Committee wrapped up its 30th meeting in Hanoi on February 22 after a day of sitting.

In his closing remarks, NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue confirmed that all five agenda items had been completed, including providing opinions on the adjustment of the draft revised Law on Archives and the draft law on amendments and supplements to several articles of the Law on Guard Force; and approving a Resolution on supplementing the number of prosecutors of the People’s Procuracy

The meeting also saw legislators discuss and provide feedback on the NA’s ombudsman activities in January and a report reviewing the 15th NA’s fifth extraordinary session, he added.

NA Secretary General and Chairman of the NA Office Bui Van Cuong said though the fifth extraordinary session lasted two and a half days, just before the Lunar New Year, the legislature completed the entire agenda with significant achievements, including the adoption of two laws and two resolutions.

y important to the implementation of the 2024 socio-economic development plan but also carry fundamental, strategic, and long-term significance for Vietnam’s overall development throughout the current term. This progress, he concluded, contributes directly to fulfilling the objectives outlined in the 13th National Party Congress’s resolution./.
