STALICLA signs Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with US National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) to cover Phase 3 development of mavoglurant in cocaine use disorder

Agreement follows STALICLA’s recent in-licencing of mavoglurant from Novartis

Geneva, Switzerland – 8 March 2023, STALICLA SA, a clinical stage biotech advancing the first precision neurobiology platform (DEPI) for patients with neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric disorders, today announced that it has entered into a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the US National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), part of the US National Institutes of Health (NIH). The agreement covers the clinical development program of mavoglurant to treat patients diagnosed with cocaine use disorder (CUD), including a Phase 3 study.

NIDA is the lead federal agency supporting scientific research on drug use and addiction to improve individual and public health. Under the terms of the CRADA, NIDA will cover under its own account the Phase 3 trial for mavoglurant, which is slated to enrol up to 330 patients. The investigational product was in-licensed by STALICLA from Novartis in return for undisclosed late-stage milestone payments and royalties, in an agreement announced in January this year. Novartis has also taken an equity stake in STALICLA.

Minister seeks more collaboration programs with UN Women

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Bintang Puspayoga has called for more massive cooperation and collaboration programs between her ministry and United Nations (UN) Women.”The Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry would like to thank UN Women for its support to the Indonesian government on the issue of gender equality and women’s empowerment so far,” she said, according to a written statement issued here on Wednesday.

She made the statement at a bilateral meeting with the UN Women executive director Sima Bahous on the sidelines of the “67th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)” in New Yorkon Monday (March 6, 2023).

So far, the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection has cooperated with UN Women on gender and women’s issues, including issues of peace and security. These issues are deemed essential, considering that Indonesia is the largest archipelagic country in the world.

“Diversity becomes one of our strengths, but also gives the potential for tensions that can affect national peace,” the minister said.

The Indonesian government has committed to protecting women and children that are vulnerable during conflicts by adopting the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security.

The government has also issued Law Number 7 of 2012 on the Handling of Social Conflicts and implemented Law Number 7 of 1984 on the Ratification of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women in the agenda of women, peace, and security in Indonesia.

The Indonesian government has also issued a National Action Plan for the Empowerment and Protection of Women and Children in Social Conflicts (RAN P3AKS).

ccording to Puspayoga, UN Women Indonesia and the civil society have supported the formulation of the RAN P3AKS to strengthen the knowledge of all policymakers, practitioners, academicians, and the media in cooperating to promote the issues of women, peace, and security.

“Considering these issues are very complex, we need more massive efforts in the implementation. We are hoping for bigger support from UN Women in the implementation of programs on women, peace, and security in Indonesia,” she said.

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan departed for London to improve Indonesia’s trade and coffee export cooperation with the United Kingdom during a visit on March 7-9, 2023.ccording to a statement on Thursday, the minister’s main agenda is to conduct a bilateral meeting with some British trade official and local businessmen.

Next on the agenda will be the signing of the International Coffee Agreement (ICA) as well as a key speech delivery in a forum of the UK-ASEAN Business Council.

Indonesia welcomes the 2022 ICA signing plan to continue cooperation with ICO to handle various challenges for the future of Indonesian coffee in the international market and improve coffee farmers’ prosperity, Hasan noted.

During the visit, the minister is accompanied by International Trade Negotiation Director General Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono and Trade Minister’s International Trade Negotiation Special Staff Bara Hasibuan.

Hasan believes that this visit is an opportunity to strengthen cooperation that has been established between Indonesia and the UK.

He expects that this series of meetings can bring real results for the development of Indonesian trade and investment.

“The ICA signing also serves as a foundation for cooperation strengthening to revitalize Indonesia’s coffee sector,” he remarked.

In 2022, the total trade between Indonesia and the UK was recorded at US$2.7 billion, a 5.30-percent increase compared to the previous year.

During the same year, Indonesia’s exports to England reached US$1.7 billion, while Indonesia’s imports from the UK were pegged at US$1.0 billion.

Libraries still need more reading collections: National Library

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Libraries are still facing deficits in their reading collections, Chief Secretary of the National LibraryOfy Sofiana said here on Wednesday.”Libraries in the central and regional governments face three challenges such as book shortages, nonoptimal services, and insufficient library personnel,” she added.

library has the duty and responsibility to provide reading collections based on a community’s needs, especially in regions, and promote books containing local knowledge that are written and produced regionally, she said.

“Of course, (one way to ensure local books provision) is by involving all components of society such as teachers, researchers, lecturers, and experts in the respective regions,” she added.

Library services need to be satisfactory in order to increase literacy. With better literacy, people and their respective regions will be more motivated to develop their potential and become productive, she explained.

“Therefore, it is our duty to educate and build a productive society,” Sofiana remarked.

She said that various efforts need to be made regarding the lack of library personnel by all parties, especially the provincial, district, and city governments, by prioritizing proposing the positions of library personnel in their region.

She said her side is committed to overcoming the issues, including through the library transformation program based on social inclusion, to contribute to poverty alleviation efforts.

Through the library transformation based on social inclusion program, easier access to knowledge can be ensured to grow people’s skills and develop innovation.

Easing access to resources through cooperation or partnership can help shift people’s lazy mindset, thus creating a literate and productive society, she said.

She expressed the hope that the “2023 Library National Coordination Meeting” will generate motivation, ideas, and inputs on the development of libraries across Indonesia for realizing quality human resources and an Advanced Indonesia.

Kimia Farma Laboratorium ; Klinik to support stunting handling program

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Kimia Farma Laboratorium and Klinik, part of the state-owned pharmaceutical company Kimia Farma Group, is ready to offer help and support in stunting handling through cooperation with the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN).The company officially collaborates with BKKBN through the Ready for Marriage Ready for Pregnancy Electronic Application (ELSIMIL) that is BKKBN’s application, President Director of Kimia Farma Laboratorium and Klinik Ardhy Nugrahanto Wokas noted.

This application has to be filled by prospective brides and grooms, and they have to undergo examination first, so that the results can be uploaded into the system, he explained here, Tuesday.

Thus, Kimia Farma Laboratorium and Klinik will have its system connected with BKKBN’s system to simplify the process and have the agency’s data be automatically connected with the agency’s existing system, he explained.

This will also make the data to be directly uploaded to the system and also certified.

Moreover, to reduce stunting, Kimia Farma Laboratorium and Klinik holds a special pre-wedding class to educate prospective couples.

“We are confident and believe that by conducting control measures in prospective couples, the effort to control stunting to reach the target of 14 percent can be achieved,” Wokas remarked.

To support the government’s effort in expediting stunting reduction from the upstream, the company also signed a cooperation agreement with BKKBN. This cooperation will facilitate the people’s access to receive service.

Earlier, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy called to have the Stunting Prevalence Figure Reduction Acceleration Program be a national movement among members of the public.

He said that the participation of all parties is important, so that the stunting reduction acceleration program can make its place in the hearts and minds of members of the society.

Vigilance against stunting should also be improved since data from the World Bank in 2019 indicated that 54 percent of Indonesia’s productive workforce are children, who suffered from stunting.
