‘Wan Nor’ Joins Discussion on AIPA Statement Draft

Bangkok: "Wan Nor" joins the discussion of the draft statement of AIPA before preparing to present it to the ASEAN leaders meeting - ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly tomorrow, hoping to promote human rights in the Ukraine-Myanmar-Gaza crisis. Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor Matha, President of the House of Representatives, together with Mr. Areepen Utarasin, Advisor to the President of the House of Representatives, as a delegation of the Thai Parliament, attended the preparatory meeting of the delegation of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), in which the meeting considered the draft statement of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly to be used in the discussion between ASEAN leaders and the delegation of the 14th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly tomorrow (26 May 2025), chaired by the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malaysia, as the President of AIPA.

According to Thai News Agency, Nanwan Muhammad Noor expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and trust in the joint meeting's ability to deliver valuable legislative insights to ASEAN leaders. He emphasized that these insights should be integrated and developed to create tangible results, focusing on the common interests of the people in the region. Representing the Thai Parliament, he conveyed confidence that the opinions reflected in the draft statement are those of the legislature, aiming to serve the people's needs and benefits.

'Wan Nor' remarked, 'I firmly believe that with our determination, the dialogue between ASEAN leaders and the representatives of the APA will yield truly beneficial results for the people of our region.'

The draft statement, set to be presented to the 14th ASEAN Leaders' Meeting and the delegation of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, emphasizes promoting human rights and democracy in the Ukraine-Myanmar crisis, advocating for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and enhancing digital trade, e-commerce, and innovation among ASEAN member countries.
