Bangkok: Reporters conveyed that an event entitled 'There is Only One Truth' took place at Thammasat University for the second time.
According to Thai News Agency, the event attracted a significant audience eager to engage with discussions on pressing social and national issues, such as the parliamentary renovation budget, the misuse of public funds, the Student Loan Fund's overwhelming debt, and the Tangmo case following the court's dismissal of the defendant.
Mr. Sonthi Limthongkul, founder of the Manager Media Group and host of Sonthi Talk, took to the stage to set the tone for the gathering. He introduced Mr. Jatuporn Promphan, the former chairman of the NPU and speaker for the People's Fusion Group. Their history traces back to when they were adversaries during Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra's tenure as prime minister, with Mr. Jatuporn on Mr. Thaksin's side. Despite their past conflicts, Mr. Sonthi noted a change in Mr. Jatuporn, especially after his time in prison. Mr. Sonthi observed that Mr. Jatuporn was no longer the same person and was now committed to working for the greater good, free from political bias.
In a rare and symbolic moment, Mr. Sonthi and Mr. Jatuporn embraced and shook hands on stage, signaling potential political shifts and collaborations in civil society. Mr. Jatuporn then addressed the audience, emphasizing the gravity of the current national crisis and the necessity for Thailand to be steered in the right direction. He stressed that the country's fate should not rest in the hands of a single individual like Mr. Thaksin but should be determined by the collective will of the people.
Mr. Jatuporn's speech highlighted the urgency of addressing the nation's challenges collaboratively, emphasizing the need for a capable leadership to resolve issues sustainably. He called for unity and cooperation to save and transform Thailand, asserting that the time for change is now.
During Mr. Jatuporn's speech, Mr. Sonthirat Sonthijirawong, former deputy leader of the Palang Pracharath Party, made an appearance, indicating a broad interest in the event's proceedings and the potential for new alliances.
