Bangkok: The Prime Minister expressed readiness to engage in discussions regarding the 2016 budget, urging the opposition to fulfill their responsibilities. She emphasized that discussions with coalition party leaders have been extensive, rendering further talks unnecessary.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister, addressed her preparedness to debate the draft budget bill for the fiscal year 2026. She assured that all ministries have been instructed to be ready to clearly communicate their budget allocations. She encouraged not to be concerned about the process.
When questioned about the opposition's observations regarding inconsistencies in ministry budgets, which appeared as though each party was gearing up for elections, the Prime Minister reiterated that the opposition should focus on their role.
Regarding inquiries about the necessity of convening with coalition party leaders ahead of the debate, Ms. Paethongtarn mentioned that multiple discussions had already taken place, both within and outside the debate framework. Each ministry had thoroughly reviewed their respective details, and thus, no further talks were deemed necessary. She urged all parties to be prepared to address any questions.
Reporters noted that prior to attending the 46th ASEAN Summit in Malaysia, Mr. Chulaphan Amornvivat, Deputy Minister of Finance, accompanied the Prime Minister. Meanwhile, Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, briefed the Prime Minister on his recent visit to the southern border provinces, providing insights for discussions with Malaysia.
