Bangkok: The Treasury Department is actively promoting the Government Savings Bank (GSB) lottery as part of National Savings Day, with a focus on supporting the aging society.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Benyarong Suwankiri, Assistant Minister to the Ministry of Finance, emphasized the significance of promoting savings to aid retirees and stimulate workers both in and outside the system during the presentation of the 2025 Outstanding Savings Promotion Award to the National Savings Fund (NSF). The NSF lottery, an innovative savings promotion initiative, is executed through partnerships with government and private agencies. The Ministry of Finance is also facilitating easier access to government bonds, particularly for the elderly, allowing them to purchase bonds monthly.
Ms. Jarulak Ruangsuwan, Secretary-General of the NSF, highlighted that informal workers currently lack welfare benefits for a retirement pension. Self-employed Thais aged 15-60 can begin saving with minimal contributions, with the government offering matches based on age. The NSF lottery combines savings with opportunities to win prizes through a digital scratch-off format under the theme "Win the Luck, Money Never Disappears; Every Baht Becomes Savings," providing a chance for all Thais aged 15 and above to save and potentially win prizes.
The GSB lottery is available for 50 baht per ticket, with a purchase limit of 3,000 baht or 60 tickets per month. Prizes are drawn every Friday at 5:00 p.m., offering five first prizes of 1 million baht each and 10,000 second prizes of 1,000 baht each. Once the law comes into effect, savings opportunities will be extended to all age groups, with a requirement for those aged 60 or older to have saved for at least five years to participate.
