Bangkok: The SEA Games men's football group A, comprising Thailand, Cambodia, and Timor-Leste, originally planned to take place at Tinsulanon Stadium in Songkhla Province, will instead be held at Rajamangala National Stadium due to security concerns.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Atthakorn Sirilathayakorn, Minister of Tourism and Sports, led a meeting with the Organizing Committee of the 33rd SEA Games and the 13th ASEAN Para Games at the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. The committee underscored Thailand's readiness to host the 33rd SEA Games, ensuring adherence to international standards in both competition management and security measures. This is part of the "Safety First" policy aimed at building confidence among all participating countries.
Mr. Atthakorn disclosed that the men's football matches in Group A will now be held at Rajamangala National Stadium instead of the previously scheduled Tinsulanon Stadium. Police security officials noted that Bangkok offers better preparedness and tighter security. Their survey of Songkhla Province revealed certain security limitations.
The schedule for the men's football matches has been rescheduled to December 4, 7, and 11, 2025, aligning with the opening ceremony on December 9. It has been confirmed that the pitch will meet all necessary standards on the day of the matches.
For security, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, in collaboration with the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) and relevant agencies in Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla, has developed a comprehensive security system to ensure the competition's safety and standard compliance.
Additionally, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, along with the SAT, has initiated a policy to engage the public as sports fans. Registration for free competition viewing is part of a gift to Thai sports fans, celebrating Thailand's return to hosting the SEA Games after 18 years.
Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the SAT, mentioned that the registration process would rigorously screen spectators to ensure maximum safety. A quota has been designated for students, as well as the underprivileged and disabled, allowing them access to all matches. For popular sports like football and volleyball, outdoor viewing areas with large screens will be available, so those unable to register can still enjoy the match atmosphere.
