Chiang Rai: 'Thaksin' visited Chiang Rai Province to support 'Salakcharit Tiyapairat', the wife of 'Yongyuth', in her campaign for the Chiang Rai Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO) president election. He expressed that he missed his fellow Chiang Rai residents and urged them to vote for 'Salakcharit'.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra, who is assisting in the campaign for Mrs. Salakcharit Tiyapairat, a candidate from the Pheu Thai Party, traveled to deliver campaign speeches at three locations across three districts. These locations included Plong Wittayakhom School in Tambon Plong, Amphoe Thoeng, the field of Ban Huai So Wittayakhom School in Amphoe Chiang Khong, and the field of Mae Chan Wittayakhom School in Amphoe Mae Chan. Other notable supporters, such as Mr. Anusorn Iamsaard, Ms. Khattiya Sawatdiphon, and Mr. Nattawut Saikua, also participated in the campaign events.
During his 40-minute speech in the northern dialect, Mr. Thaksin shared his sentiments of missing the people of Chiang Rai, whom he had not seen for over 17 years. He recalled his close relationship with Mr. Yongyuth Tiyapairat, who was not only a dear younger brother but also served as the Prime Minister's Secretary-General during Thaksin's tenure as Prime Minister. Emphasizing his support for Mrs. Salakcharit, he urged the people of Chiang Rai to cast their votes in her favor.
Mrs. Salakcharit's main rival, Ms. Athitathorn Wanchaithanawong, who previously held the position of Chiang Rai PAO president, is contesting as an independent candidate. Despite this, she is perceived to have the backing of the Blue Network. This perception arises from the 2023 MP election, during which members of the Wanchaithanawong family shifted their allegiance from the Pheu Thai Party to the Bhumjaithai Party, causing significant displeasure to Mr. Thaksin and the Pheu Thai Party.
