Thai Windsurfing Team Overcomes Theft Incident, Prepares for Princess Sofia Regatta-Palma

Palma: The Thai windsurfing team is pressing forward with their preparations for the upcoming "Princess Sofia Regatta-Palma" competition in Palma, Majorca, Spain, scheduled from 31 March to 5 April 2025. The team faced a setback when their vehicle was broken into while purchasing supplies before heading to Mallorca. Secretary-General of the Windsurfing Association of Thailand, Mr. Phatthana Bunsawat, shared that despite the incident, the athletes' spirits have improved, and they are actively training in the sea to acclimate to the local conditions.

According to Thai News Agency, the team comprises three athletes: Nitipat Chaiwutthiwet in the general male category, Athicha Homraruen, and "Dao" Siriporn Kaewduangngam in the general female category, with Mr. Sakda Sakulfang serving as the coach. Upon arrival in Majorca, Coach Sakulfang initiated training immediately. While the wind and waves were manageable, the fluctuating weather posed a challenge. Nitipat Chaiwutthiwet caught a mild cold, but Coach Sakulfang is ensuring he receives proper care, with hopes for a timely recovery before the competition. Training sessions have shown promising progress, with all athletes prepared to compete at their best capacity.

The theft incident involved the stealing of Siriporn's belongings, including a souvenir backpack from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics containing sunglasses and about 4,000 Thai baht. She has reported the theft to local authorities. Fortunately, vital items like passports and Euros were with the athletes, allowing them to continue their participation in the event.
